“The most dangerous thought in life is ‘if only…’ Nothing that follows those words comes true. Embrace reality. Think. Pick a course of action & execute. The amount of time & energy people waste wishing things & others were different instead of leaning into their agency is sad.”
Huberman
John Deere got this video taken off our YouTube channel for two weeks. It took our lawyers reaching out to YouTube to get it back up.
The video lays out how a handful of corporations took control of the entire agriculture industry, bankrupting farmers and screwing over America.
My phone is filled with messages about Greg Biffle.
It dawned on me that Greg left something behind, that few ever do.
As I was scrolling through my phone I realized that the messages pouring in with love for Greg weren't just from the wealthiest and the most famous... though, there were many of those.
What struck me, and I can't get over it, is the messages from the unassuming mountain men... men who few will ever know their names.
Men who silently helped their neighbors after the storm.
The men who received no recognition...
...because they didn't want any
It was these men... the ones you'll never meet, the ones who never took credit, the ones who kept their heads down and did the work, it was these hillbillies of Western North Carolina, that brought me to tears.
They had Greg's number, and they called him to check on him after seeing the news of the crash.
And this morning, it hit me like few things have, that every single one of us knew that Greg could have done anything, anything at all.
And for nearly a year, he chose to spend his life caring, building, loving, and serving a group of people he never met, asking for nothing in return.
What Greg left behind was a vast ocean of kindness to a people who are often forgotten and left behind.
..and these mountain men, they knew it
And all they wanted to do was to somehow make it up to him one day, and now they couldn't.
I know nothing of NASCAR.
I know nothing of Greg Biffle, the driver.
But every single one of us in Western North Carolina knows of Greg Biffle, the hero.
Farmer Joel Salatin just sounded the alarm.
Billionaires and massive corporations like BlackRock, Vanguard, Monsanto, and Bill Gates are buying up all of America’s farmland.
Here’s why this fight will define our children’s future:
Salatin: “Half of America’s farmers are 60 years old.”
“In the next 15 years, half of all America’s agriculture equity—land, buildings, machinery—is gonna change hands.”
“Who’s it gonna go to? Bill Gates, Monsanto, BlackRock, Vanguard?”
“Or is it going to be going to a new generation of young, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed entrepreneurial land acquirers?”
“We have to allow these thousands of young farmers that I meet every year in America ready to access their neighbors with retail dollars … a seat at the table.”
@joelsalatin
“It is a good thing when private citizens feel the drive to create goods for everyone to consume… a form of that is making your house look really cool for everyone who visits it or walks by it.”
@BlakeSNeff said this on a show recently when talking about decorating for the holidays and I’ve looked at beauty differently since then.
There’s something spiritual about choosing to make beauty, even (or especially) when the world feels heavy. It’s a rebellion: refusing to let cynicism be the default setting.
@PISSEDPATRIOTUS I am living in the new covenant for sure, but my experience has shown me that in this loud and busy world, taking one day to be quiet has brought me closer to Jesus. I don’t look at it as a religious thing that must be done, but rather, a beautiful blessing that brings peace to my heart and closeness with Jesus.
@JackPosobiec I’ve been observing the sabbath for six weeks. Charlie’s example was the catalyst for me and it’s been life changing. I can’t wait to read this book to dig in deeper.
@Godzilla8317 Nah, Thoughtcrime is for the boys. But, as a female, I don’t miss a single show. Such a fun watch.
I think you’re on to something though. Last week when I was listening in, I did have the thought that I wish there was a female version of this. They would have different perspectives that would be very interesting as well.
@listen2tish It’s tough to see women sitting in that crowd not backing you or fighting for themselves.
You’re an icon, Tish. You speak with authority and clarity. Thank you.
A 50-year mortgage plan is being floated to help younger generations "afford" the American Dream. But that’s not homeownership. That’s RENTING. It’s almost like… “you will own nothing and be happy.”
@1776wife@steezrad@realalexclark The interviewer doesn’t have to personally have experience with the subject matter to facilitate a productive interview.
She’s doing her job and asking the questions to people who are married and therefore are more equipped to comment on the subject matter.
