@AlexHynes@EastMidRailway@NetworkRailEM Let’s hope GBR pauses to understand ’why’ our railways exist. For me it is to support the social and economic well being of the country in a safe, sustainable, accessible, reliable and efficient way. If it has that at its heart, our railways will thrive and so too the country.👍
@ChimeWhistle@AWalkersTale When the purpose of ‘why’ our railway exist is to help ensure the social and economic well-being of our country, it does make me wonder why so many governments from the 1960s have made decision to degrade them. Maybe there are hidden people behind the scenes pulling the strings?
@Captain_Deltic@ChimeWhistle See if you can get an audiences with them to explain it to them. I would have thought being a journalist you’d be able to do that. No good snipping from to sidelines if you can make an opportunity to engage with them. 🤓👍
@TheCinesthetic And after all that expense to create that film, they still got the wrong period train - they are in a British Railways carriage that was made in the 1960s. Doh! 😉
Happy Birthday to a legend – Frank Hornby!
👉Join us in celebrating this special day by telling us what your favourite Hornby model is, past or present.

King Charles III founded The Prince’s Trust in 1976 at the age of 27, using his £7,500 Navy severance pay as seed money. What began as a small initiative to help disadvantaged young people in the UK has grown into one of the country’s leading youth charities. Now known as The King’s Trust following his accession to the throne in 2022, the organization has supported over a million young people through mentoring, training, and enterprise programs, empowering them to build brighter futures despite challenges like unemployment, exclusion, or personal hardship.
@KingsTrust
@SalopianLyne@NSE_Latchmere Taken just a couple of month before I rode in the engine room on a work experience. We were meant to measure exhaust temperatures, but the equipment didn’t work so I got to sit next to the driver to March from near Leicester. That was a good day. 🤓👍
@ChimeWhistle I’ve never considered them ‘MK5s’ because they are not an evolution of the previous British Rail carriage design. They are just a different carriage. Why did we loose the ability to design, develop and build our own railway carriages? The BT10 bogie is still the best.
@DavidHorne@GYEventsCentre@LNER@NetworkRailEC Was there any discussion to reestablish why our railways exist? For me our railway system exists to support the social and economic well being of this country in a safe, sustainable, accessible, reliable and efficient way.If all working in rail understood that, GBR would be great
Despite being nearly 2h 30m late, the 1980s XPT has arrived in Melbourne.
An absolutely stunning locomotive which has been refurbished and given a new lease on life
@ChimeWhistle So much for a labour government who are meant to support and be supported by the unions…or does the DfT not know who they work for? Who knows what is really going on, but it’s to the detriment of everyone.
@HiPa125 A proper Cross Country train. Why did the fools sell them abroad? Could they have not waited until the vomit comets had been refurbished and adequate HST replacements built? XC services are awful to ride on these days.
