@peterrhague National Service. Our adolescent brains are wired to seek danger/excitement in order to flee the nest all the way to ~27. Couple that with the absence of any experience of discipline (of any type) then it’s a recipe for disaster. Harness it or send them to @Miss_Snuffy
@JezCorden@StormplayerDX I’d always liked gaming, but it was when I first saw, and more importantly heard, Doom on a PC with a Colour Monitor and full sound blaster setup I was in awe, utterly smitten. Career and earnings back into gaming all down to thar bloody lucky kid and his rig
@Riskit4TB@MrboomstickXL@IGN@asha_shar@XBOX Were their recent games big successes though? If they were bringing in the revenue I doubt the cuts would have been so hard there. Doesn’t mean don’t value them, personally loved Dark Ages, playing Revelations now but looks like very few others are.
@Boxenberger Nearly finished the utterly wonderful First Light. Looking forward to starting Rebirth but not long having finished Intergrade and Octopath 0 I want to focus on some shorter games for a bit, Halo and Doom I think, then onto Rebirth before Gears
Andy Burnham vows to ditch the first past the post voting system in favour of proportional representation.
He has no mandate for such a massive change. It wasn’t in the 2024 Labour manifesto.
He should call a General Election and let the voters decide.
This is the City Barge pub in Chiswick right now. What do you notice? It’s 3pm and they’re open. It’s a sunny day. Yes, that’s right; they have had to remove all of the tables and chairs outside. They have had to destroy their own business. Why? Because Rick Rowe, a Green Party councillor on Hounslow council, who lives very, very, very close to this pub and complains about it almost daily, has banned all three pubs here on strand on the Green Chiswick, from having outside tables. I can only assume he hates pubs, hates business and hates the British way of life. This would usually be buzzing with people enjoying their afternoon. However, they’re the wrong sort of people for Rick.
@afneil Come on, we’ve raised the two child benefit cap so we can get multiple extra child prodigies, what is China’s long game on industrial policy, EV and battery technology compared to such Labour 4D chess?
@carygolomb@joemama_0609 Given everything in an inflation measuring "basket of goods", including bread has supply chains dependent on compute, we'll only see that standard measure rise. I don't think it will have filtered through yet, but its going to as everyone pays way more for BAU.
Working in Enterprise IT its no surprise, nor the Apple rises. The inflation is staggering and is only going up. Outside of biggest AI systems, most are optimising RAM footprint as much as possible, NAND too. Got an OXP G1 on kickstarter last year, 4TB, 64GB, praying it lasts for years as wouldn’t be feasible to replace today.
Had great fun with this, played great on my OXP G1 (highly recommended game for handheld PCs) and perfect being able to Play Anywhere so played plenty on the Xbox as well👌. @mousethegame
Problem for gamers is that the majority of the investment is going into non graphics capable accelerators. Cards like the RTX6k are going into workstations and the currently smaller Enterprise AI server market in the main. The really big AI Factory purchases of B300/GB/VR/MI aren’t second gaming life appropriate. Unlike the mining craze that was using consumer GPU.
@vicious696@Jenbox360 Sadly the making the current generation cheaper might be harder than a new one in the current AI led environment. Process shrinking an old design vs a new one may not be cost effective , but mainly on what memory is available and for how long. @IanCutress might have a view there.
@JezCorden@HeroGamingXP@ManaByte Yep, sadly I think the hardest task right now for anyone would be putting an appreciable bump to current systems out for under $1000 at all, let alone a high end system. Still expecting more DRAM rises in the near term too 😬
@SNoonan82@JezCorden Interesting, still playing Remake but been preferring my Series X for that as found (shader?) stutter more annoying in the PC version even with a decent dGPU. Reversed with Rebirth?
Got into Enterprise IT due to love of PC gaming. Last 9 months been one long set of pricing and availability "fun"...Many customers really started to understand the massive industry price rises when they were upgrading their kids' gaming PCs..Rises like this hammer it home.
the steam deck is a top 3 gaming device or console i’ve ever owned. it’s also now no longer worth buying. i wanted to get another spare one but so much for that.
unbelievably, the xbox rog ally x is now vastly better priced atm at $1,000, more powerful than steam deck.
Stylised Cray-1 $1 coin is very cool, somewhat jealous of this one from over the pond. Some great supercomputing history there. #WeAreHPE
