@nectarios It was a great, disruptive product that was a breath of fresh air and that could have become a real contender. It’s akin to FB buying WhatsApp & co. Sure, Tiktok came along, but it cost A LOT in ads to get there. I’m a fan of lower barriers to entry and competitive markets
Extremely disappointed by this news and hope that the acquisition does not pass regulatory approval. It’s high time US regulators keep markets competitive. I do not see any positive outcomes expect for the founders and investors. https://t.co/PBSz06oTkA
Popchew just raised $3M to build Mr. Beast-Burger-style food franchises for creators
It's like Uber Eats meets Supreme meets Carbone.
+ @APompliano's Bitcoin Pizza was Popchew's first ever sale. A business model breakdown 👇

Wow. I have a hard time imagining a legitimate explanation for this practice besides payback and hindering employee career changes. Very petty. Reflects poorly on apple’s corporate practices. #AppleToo

Love this story and can't wait to read more tech stories from Rest of World. Reminds us that tech is culture and that access to technology can have profound and lasting impacts on communities https://t.co/rx1XLDWWBF
Amazing thread!
Also highlights how misguided some talk about online privacy is: the real game is not about data ownership, it’s about data aggregation. Stopping collection is only step 1.
I'm back from a week at my mom's house and now I'm getting ads for her toothpaste brand, the brand I've been putting in my mouth for a week. We never talked about this brand or googled it or anything like that.
As a privacy tech worker, let me explain why this is happening. 🧵
I don't know if this is as big a deal as the NYTimes is making it to be: op-ed, "opposite editorial" will now be renamed "Guest Essays".
Clarity is good, but publishing abhorrent "Guest Essays" is still giving them a platform & is still a judgement call

@jayrosen_nyu @annamasera @Sulliview Love this framing! I think it does go to a real problem journalists have - knowingly or not - because "managing risk" can be seen as "taking sides" and is thus avoided.
So they report and let the public decide, but since reporting is anything but neutral... trust issues ensue
@reckless It’s an easy argument to make if you don’t take into account second order effects.
Apple makes money on devices and... creates software to sell more devices. Do we really want another “services first big tech” like GOOG, FB or MSFT?
@dscape@dhh You are defining a trillion dollar company without reading the actual post or understanding the context properly. Maybe that one is on you.
