Most forms of anxiety, OCD, or neurosis trace back to how the nervous system manages uncertainty and the impulse to control.
When the brain perceives uncertainty as danger, it ramps up cognitive control strategies (overthinking, reassurance seeking, perfectionism).
The catch is, the more control we try to exert, the less safe we feel internally. That loop creates neurotic conflict: safety versus freedom locked in tension.
Neurosis is a divided self.
When you build tolerance for uncertainty, those fragmented parts begin to integrate. In neuroscience terms, thatâs the Default Mode Network loosening its grip. In somatic terms, the autonomic nervous system moves from sympathetic defense into parasympathetic safety.
This creates the calm, connected flow I call Transcendent Surrender or Willful Communion.
Itâs from here that homeostatic joy takes over.
