BREAKING NEWS: President @realDonaldTrump-appointed U.S. Attorney, the amazing and no-nonsense Jeanine Pirro (@USAttyPirro), has initiated action in federal court to comply with the @uscourts orders concerning the release of @TheJusticeDept, @FBI, and @DEAHQ records relating to drug-trafficking allegations against Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT).

U.S. Attorney Pirro requested an additional 10 days, but Judge Beryl Howell granted only four additional days, until August 21, noting that this case has already been pending for more than three years.

We deeply appreciate U.S. Attorney #Pirro and the DOJ’s renewed motivation to release these documents, and we agree with Judge Howell. This case has been pending for three years. The time to release the #Tinubu drug-trafficking files is now.
As President #Trump has indicated, our shared interests with #Nigeria do not mean supporting an alleged drug trafficker.

THE EVIDENCE BEHIND THE BIAFRA CONFLICT IS NOW UNDER SCRUTINY ⚖️🇫🇮

17 AUGUST 2026 — FINAL SESSION OF THE DAY

As the defence proceedings continued today in Finland, the courtroom turned to an important question: what does the independent human-rights record tell us about what happened in South-East Nigeria?

Simon Ekpa and his defence team examined evidence and research from Amnesty International, including its investigations into the treatment of pro-Biafra protesters and the wider violence in the South-East.

This is significant because Amnesty International is not a Biafran political organisation. It is an international human-rights organisation whose investigations rely on interviews, photographs, videos, testimonies and other evidence.

In its 2016 report, Amnesty said it analysed 87 videos, 122 photographs and 193 testimonies relating to pro-Biafra demonstrations. It documented allegations of extrajudicial killings, excessive use of force, arbitrary arrests, torture and other abuses by Nigerian security forces. Amnesty reported that at least 150 pro-Biafra activists and supporters had been killed since August 2015. (Amnesty International)

Then came Amnesty’s 2025 report, “A Decade of Impunity: Attacks and Unlawful Killings in South-East Nigeria.”

That investigation estimated that 1,844 people were killed in the South-East between January 2021 and June 2023, while documenting unlawful killings, disappearances, torture, arbitrary detention and destruction of property.

And importantly, Amnesty’s findings identify multiple perpetrators and actors — including Nigerian security forces, IPOB/ESN, unknown gunmen, cult groups, vigilantes and Ebube Agu. (Amnesty International)

So the defence argument is not simply about politics.

It is about evidence, methodology, accountability and the human-rights record surrounding the conflict.

If these independent reports document serious violations against civilians and pro-Biafra communities, then the court must carefully consider the broader context in which allegations of terrorism, violence and political activity are being assessed.

That is where due process matters.

The courtroom itself remained calm as proceedings continued. From the courtroom observation available to us, the Nigerian prosecution side appeared to be represented without a visible Nigerian delegation present — but that is an observation, not proof that no Nigerian representative or observer was involved remotely or elsewhere.

For Biafrans watching from home and abroad, this is a moment to pay attention.

Let the evidence be examined.
Let every allegation be tested.
Let every victim be heard.
And let the law not political emotion determine the outcome.
