I actually want to stop banging the Jews Don't Count drum at some point but hard to do when a racist myth about Jews is just...said, breezily, on one of the biggest podcasts in the world and no-one gives a fuck.
So we're not supposed to describe applicants as "caring" and "compassionate" because those words are too feminized. Frankly, this is what's wrong with academia! Can we celebrate stereotypically female traits instead? I'd rather mentor a compassionate student than a driven jerk.

A typical NSF grant supports one postdoc for 3 years. Which is enough under this calculation for 2 or maybe 3 papers if you're lucky And no additional training is needed.
I wish tenure/review committees understood this when they evaluated developmental psychology work.
Add in piloting, design, building, reliability coding, analysis, paper drafting... And that number balloons to easy 5 times that size (1500 hrs). Nearly a full work year fulltime for a single paper (assuming everything goes perfectly the first time you run the project, hahaha).
