🚨 Today in @Nature, we report GEMINI—a genetically encoded intracellular memory device that writes cellular dynamics into tree-ring-like fluorescent patterns within cytoplasmic protein assemblies.[1/n]

Blood-based biomarkers are transforming dementia diagnosis, yet validation in diverse populations remains a major gap. Our first multinational Latin American study at @NatureAging demonstrates the power of plasma AT(N) biomarkers (Aβ42/Aβ40, p-tau217, p-tau181, NfL) to assess Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. Machine-learning models combining plasma AT(N) + neuropsychology + neuroimaging substantially improve diagnostic discrimination. Outstanding work by the @ReDLat_Dementia team, led by Felipe Cabral-Miranda, Ariel Caviedes and the great @durananiotz. Congrats to all the team: https://t.co/VIRsEnlTbY
MICrONs is a big dataset that allows you to see the little details of brain cells in a whole new way.
Get up close to the synapses between two layer 2/3 pyramidal cells (in green and purple) in this mesmerizing video by our #ElectronMicroscopy team.
Happy birthday, Max Planck! 🎂The physicist, pianist, #NobelPrize winner, #quantum trailblazer & timeless thinker was born #OTD 1858 in Kiel: his discoveries in the field of #physics forever changed how we understand energy & matter!🎉
I spend my days in the microscope quantifying things like the images below. These photos show neurons 🔵 and microglia 🟣 (brain immune cells). Each #SARSCoV2 infected cell entering the brain generates this response in our Covid monkey model.

Billions of people have never seen the beauty of the Plankton. Share to show them and to also reveal that among it now, drifts our microplastic pollution. @zeiss_micro
Let's commemorate #WorldSleepDay, my favorite holiday, celebrated daily.
#Sleep is a complex #neurobiological process crucial for memory consolidation, emotional regulation and glymphatic system function.
Improving sleep quality results in many #cognitive benefits!
Our #CellLineOfTheWeek is Nucleoporin Nup153! 🧫
Our human iPS cell lines & plasmids – fluorescently-tagged to illuminate structures – are available for just the cost of shipping to support scientific discovery.

We think that all memory is stored in the brain. But our study published today in @NatureComms shows that all cells—even kidney cells—can count, detect patterns, store memories, and do so similarly to brain cells. My first (co)corresponding author paper!🧵https://t.co/biaahYiPRW
Scientists have designed a new form of insulin that can automatically switch itself on and off depending on glucose levels in the blood https://t.co/uD9Emdjsce
Two papers in @Nature present a new genome editing technique that enables the insertion, inversion and deletion of long DNA sequences at user-specified genome positions. The approach may provide an easier method of genome editing.
