Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, has affirmed its commitment to transform the country’s fisheries sector by focusing on commercialisation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
This is in alignment with the aspirations of the Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries Programme, a partnership between @MastercardFdn, AfCFTA Private Sector Development Unit, and TradeMark Africa. This programme is designed to, among other things, enable over 240,000 jobs and boost intra-African fish trade by $100 million by 2028.
The PS welcomed the initiative, saying that the fisheries sector remains one of the most important economic players in Uganda after coffee, contributing significantly to national food security and employment.
