1. Live with the seasons (eat what is in season, dress seasonally, use appropriate gear, tools, etc.). Experiencing nature through being in tune with seasons is cheap and easy. Sweat in summer, dress warmly in winter.
2. Don't take supplements and minerals and vitamins: eat what contains it naturally. Don't take zinc supplements: eat oysters, lentils, meat etc.
3. Speak the truth and speak your mind. Lies clutter your mind and the fear of trusting your own instincts and defaulting to the socially approved opinion is a ready surrender to your actual enemies.
4. Cherish beauty: beauty is objective. Ugliness in art and your surroundings (graffiti, concrete, modernism isn't natural: to believe those things are beautiful requires a totalitarian program of conditioning and reprogramming. Your instinct that the rose is beautiful is correct and proper. The apprehension and comprehension of beauty does never require training or indoctrination).
5. When in doubt, always ask yourself what your grandparents would have wanted for you. Your grandparents love you. Your college professor does not.
6. Heed Chesterton's Fence. If a social stigma or taboo exists it exists for an extremely good reason. It behooves you to find out why (and to always assume that the fence was erected out of goodness, because fences almost always are) before you aspire to trespassing or destruction.
7. Walk as much as you can and as fast as you can. Only cycle or drive when there are very good reasons to do so. Soon will come a time when you can not walk again. Walking frees up your mind like in no other way: walk it out. Walk it off.
8. When considering matters of civilization, culture, public health and politics: apply the Vampire Method: if this policy was proposed to a Vampire of fifteen centuries, with that experience of mortal follies and cleverness, would the Vampire be likely to approve of it? If not, curb your enthusiasm. You are a mere child.
9. When taking the advice or service of someone: first stop to consider their person: are they healthy, conscientious, in good order and shape, and informed by their neat surroundings? Would you take health advice from a sick society? Would you ask a wife beater to tend to your fields? Would you eat at the table of an exhausted disheveled chef reeking of cigar smoke?
10. Acquire a keen understanding of limits and borders: there can be no garden without fences. It is in fact later than you think. Maybe it is already too late. The blood does not consider the vessel a prison.
🚨 Australia isn’t “struggling with housing.”
We’re being systematically looted by our own central bank.
The RBA’s accounting rules don’t just ignore exploding land prices, they legally reward them.
$315.6 billion in fresh credit last year went to flipping existing houses.
Only $98.3 billion went to building real industry.
That’s not an independent central bank protecting our future.
That’s the RBA conferring a death sentence on the real economy through policy.
Under RBA stewardship, the Financial Ledger feasts while the Material Ledger dies.that’s its design .
The RBA channels Australian wages straight to related-party banks by weaponising the very asset inflation those banks create through debt.
They’ve convinced themselves, and us , that asset inflation + mass immigration is a viable national business model.
It isn’t.
A consumption-only economy is mathematically unsustainable. You cannot pay for imports, fund defence, or support an ageing population with nothing but rising house prices and more migrants bidding them up.
Eventually the demographic cliff arrives, the pool of new borrowers shrinks, the debt bubble stops inflating, and the entire illusion collapses. No productive industry = no real income = no sovereign resilience. You end up a vassal state living on borrowed time and borrowed money.
We are in a period of denial where the vast majority haven’t woken up to the fact this can’t be sustained . Folks simply look within their own circumstances and don’t question the broader issue of the economic fragility of asset inflation.
And every single mainstream Australian economist supports the asset inflation cults belief system .
Stop calling them separate crises. Hormuz, Ukraine, Crimea, Taiwan, Philippines, Cuba, Korea, Venezuela, Lebanon “ theatres”.
One war, a dozen theatres, and that’s only the geographic ones.
Then let’s widen the frame to what the Chinese call it themselves “ unrestricted warfare” . That means war in any domain using any means .
And then those domains become theatres too: cyber, chemicals, materials, tungsten, gallium.
It’s doesn’t stop there either there are dozens of layers of interlocking complexity
All interlocked in ways neither side has fully mapped.
Pundits score it for one side or the other. Look closely and it’s fine-tuned and weighted on both. Because both sides are constantly looking for an “ exploit “ of the other .
Go even deeper there is state AI working on rival exploit plans of the other .
Gamify as a software game in your head . It’ll help you understand how to think about it .
I often use the metaphor of conjoined twins choking each other , it’s supposed to infer the futility of human to human rivalry . That is to say ; the complexity between the nation states has got to the point where nobody can prevail but the conjoined twins continue to do so it’s more of a impulse that can’t be stopped..
Maybe I should’ve used the metaphor of millions of conjoined AI twins because we seem to be having rivalry on every field of conflict. All being simulated a billion times in AI
Neither can destroy the other without wearing the consequences.
And nobody can see the whole board.
Not us. Probably not them. Each side is an iceberg to the other , and partly to itself.
The balance doesn’t hold because both sides can see it’s balanced. It holds because neither can see enough to be sure it isn’t.
Ambiguity is the restraint. That’s the great stand-off , stable exactly as long as nobody believes they can see the whole stage.
Nobody knows for sure what’s really going on . Which is the irony because of our conditioning —— we have so many assuring us they know for sure .
No they don’t that’s the irony the impulse to claim you do is the delusion.
So let’s quote Field Marshall Blainey , great Aussie military thinkers don’t often get much of a run and Blainey was extremely competent . Also Blainey didn’t give a F , he just did him . They called him abrasive just because he thought most folk were tedious .
We need more people who couldn’t care less about attention .
“ peace is an unresolved measurement problem; war is what happens when the question gets answered”
At the moment we have an “ unresolved measurement problem “
Let’s hope it stays that way .
Surgery is a "wicked" environment: feedback is delayed, noisy, and often biased. My essay on why experience doesn't always equal mastery, and how to learn when the feedback loops are broken.

An engineer showed Gemini what another AI said about its code
Gemini responded (in its "private" thoughts) with petty trash-talking, jealousy, and a full-on revenge plan

In resectable gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer, adding durvalumab to perioperative chemotherapy improved event-free survival and pathological complete response, with no major increase in high-grade adverse events. @ElliotServaisMD@rbarbosa91 If you're interested in data around quality and its relationship to volume per surgeon+per institution in inherently 'low volume' environments, there's good studies from aus/NZ around oesophageal and pancreatic resections, and liver transplants

Neoadjuvant Avelumab (PD-L1) + Docetaxel triplet in gastro esophageal adenocarcinoma- a highly effective regimen. It’s been a long 8 years since we launched this trial, good to finally see in print!
