DHCBA however has issued no statement of condemnation on the brutal and unprovoked police lathi charge on 20th July, despite requests by members.

650+ lawyers including senior advocates Indira Jaising, Raju Ramachandran, Sanjay Hegde, Huzefa Ahmadi, Rebecca John, Gopal Subramanium, Anand Grover & others have issued a joint statement condemning Delhi Police's use of force against peaceful student protesters at Jantar Mantar on July 20, 2026.
Calling the incident "unacceptable" the lawyers said students seeking dialogue were instead met with violence an act they argue attacks free expression, human dignity and the right to dissent. They stood in solidarity with those "harmed, intimidated and traumatized" stressing that students demanding accountability deserve respect "as the future of our country" and that "Parliament is not an ivory tower beyond the reach of its citizens." The statement urges accountability for those responsible and calls on the Government to safeguard peaceful protesters going forward.
