The Accommodation Recognition Payment was sold as temporary. More than four years later, the State is still paying a non means tested €600 a month, or €7,200 a year towards Ukrainian nationals rent. Irish renters get a €1,000 annual Rent Tax Credit.

Halal and Kosher need to be 100% banned here. It's needless animal cruelty @DublinSPCA WHEN are you going to make a statement on this????...NO EXCEPTIONS for this barbaric practice.
The FOI request revealed 116,000 animals were slaughtered in Ireland without being stunned, under exemptions provided for Halal and other forms of slaughtering.
Usually non-stun slaughter means the animal is conscious while having their throats slit.

Seeing that - surprise, surprise - halal slaughter in Ireland is unimaginably barbaric, I though it fitting to include what Desmond Fennell wrote about the Halal Meats plant in Ballyhaunis in "A Connacht Journey", published in 1987.
Despite the rewriting of history now to make it sound like the Halal plant in Mayo was an early and joyous contact with Islam and foreign investment, farmers Fennell met in the area said that despite promises made on giving best prices in print media, in person, it was a different story:
"They paid low prices and their attitude was take-it-or-leave-it."
More importantly, according to local farmers, their acquisition quality standards matched their dispatch standards:
"People would sell cattle to Halal only if they hadn't passed the TB test or were sick or old."
Halal slaughter is and always was barbaric and as Fennel recorded nearly 40 years ago, meat quality is an afterthought.
Halal has no place in Ireland.

@CNolanOffaly@mattiemcgrathtd a question for Minister for Agriculture- why is there no labelling for HALAL slaughtered meat? What percentage of abattoirs do HALAL slaughtering? It is in school lunches and the shops yet consumers have no idea.
The Irish were not consulted! Letters in thread.
1/9 BREAKING NEWS - Halal slaughtered meat may not labelled for Irish consumers according to FSAI.
The paper trail of the letters I have written and the replies are in the thread below.
It has been just over two months (17 May 2026) since Alex Coughlan's rich and meaningful existence was casually and cruelly taken, and both of the accused have still yet to be charged with murder (further charges are likely in time). His family wish to keep Alex in the collective memory of the public as much as possible.
This entails more than acknowledging his death but also his life; and so they would like me to share this clip of Alex having a laugh with his younger sister Zara. To give another small glimpse into the type of person he was. To show that he had people who loved him. Who miss him. People whose path's were interwoven with Alex's in a million ways, until evil crossed his path on that unimaginable day.
Rest In Peace Alex.
Please share.
@TheMandyGall@peta@ispca Nobody agreed to consuming Halal meat nor consented to this form of slaughter on an industrial scale. This is a massive scandal.
@Margare27461789 Trump derangement syndrome is rampant in Ireland, they blame him for everything and not a word about the Irish government and what they are doing to the Irish people.
This barbaric practice has to be banned in Ireland. Animal cruelty is something that western civilisation has deemed more and more unacceptable over decades and centuries. Non-stun slaughtering must be totally outlawed.
