Another Research Milestone for Gauhati University!
The University continues to strengthen its research excellence with two innovative project proposals receiving the prestigious Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI)â2024 Appreciation Award.
Under the supervision of Dr. Hemen Kumar Kalita, the following research works have been recognised:
1ī¸âŖ Proposal No. 16893, titled âFunctionalized graphene derivative for non-invasive detection of formalin in adulterated fishâ by research scholar, Anurag Kashyap
2ī¸âŖ Proposal No. 16864, titled âFacile and cost-effective fabrication of graphene-based hydrophobic sponge for efficient oil/water separationâ by research scholar, Biswajit Dehingia.
The award ceremony was held on 28 January 2026 at the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi. The event was graced by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, as the Chief Guest.

Prof. @AjaySoodIISc, @PrinSciAdvGoI, joined the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Awards (GYTI) as Chief Guest on 28 January 2026 at the NPL Auditorium, New Delhi. The event included Prof. @anilgb, Founder, @honeybeenetwork; Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director, @CSIR_NPL; Prof. P. V. M. Rao, Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Design, IIT Delhi; and Mr. Ramesh Patel, President, @SRISTIORG.
The event witnessed the Book Release for GYTI and the conferment of the Awards by PSA. In his address, Prof. Sood described the occasion as a celebration of youth-led innovation and its transformative potential. He appreciated GYTI awards for consistently recognising student innovators across diverse disciplines.
He highlighted the award-winning innovations and OPSA initiatives such as RuTAG and RSVCs, which bridge technology gaps at the grassroots, taking innovations from lab to land. Additionally, he discussed the ā¤¸ā¤š-SANKALP mission, which connects publicly funded S&T systems with livelihood outcomes through a curated portfolio of affordable, deployment-ready solutions.
