London doctors have been left behind @BMAResidents
Struggling with soaring rents and houseprices, Drs are priced out of London unless you have family help
Why do other NHS staff get £7k London weighting while we have been stuck at £2.1k?
@Melissa_S_Ryan@RossNieuwoudt
@IainKewley@Sam_C1997@BMAResidents Working in london isnt necessarily a choice. For example I have caring responsibilities in London, and cant afford a house. London weighting would significantly help. Other professionals get higher wages in London, it makes literally no sense for doctors not to
Disgraceful that London Weighting for doctors is less than 3 times other NHS staff
Our london weighting has not increased since 2005
London doctors are being left behind @BMAResidents please can this be addressed urgently this ultimately comes down to our union
Depressing that nothing has changed since this post 3 years ago
London weight must increase urgently, the fact it has increased by 0% for over 25 years is beyond a joke, its disgraceful

I work in central London, so I get a “London Weighting” which is to compensate for the cost of living in London…
Compared to our AHP colleagues this is less than a quarter of what they receive per month! The value of Doctors’ London weighting hasn’t changed since 1994…
Left: Keir Starmer and Wes Streeting are blaming doctors for going on strike
Right: Dr Haseena Wazir explains why doctors are going on strike @DrHWazir
Warning: If you watch this video, and you genuinely care for the NHS, you'll end up supporting the doctors
Transcript:
Tomorrow I’m going out on strike as a Resident Doctor in England
I don’t take that decision lightly. I became a doctor to look after patients, not to walk away from work
But right now, I’m watching A&Es overflow, ambulances queue outside hospitals, and patients treated in corridors even on non strike days
While doctors who want to work in A&E are competing 14 to 1 for training places, and around 5 to 1 in GP
30,000 doctors applied for 10,000 training jobs this year
Thousands of future Consultants and GPs turned away due to Government imposed caps on training jobs
Doctors are ready to step in. The system isn’t letting them.
On top of that, after years of pay erosion
Wes Streeting has recommended a real terms pay cut for doctors for the next financial year
These factors in combination makes it harder for doctors to stay, to train, and to build a future in the NHS
Wes Streeting’s offer doesn’t change this
The headline 4,000 jobs he announced are a cannibalisation of existing locally employed doctor jobs, so the total number of doctors doesn’t increase at all as a result of his offer
There’s also nothing on pay, despite assurances we were on a ‘journey’ to pay restoration last year
The BMA offered to meet Wes Streeting as soon as the November strikes ended
He ignored the BMA for weeks
Instead, a last-minute rushed offer arrived from him with less than 24 hours to respond
The BMA put it to resident doctors. Nearly 30,000 of them said it wasn’t good enough
For me, this is about jobs and pay together
You can’t reduce waiting lists without training doctors, and you can’t keep doctors in the NHS while cutting their pay in real terms.
Tomorrow, I’ll be standing shoulder to shoulder with @BMAResidents across England on the picket lines; not because we want to strike, but because we need a solution from Wes Streeting that’s actually credible
That still remains within the Government’s gift to deliver
Wes has conceded that Streeting's Strikes this week would cause £¼ billion
Alongside previous strikes, that money could have paid for 3yrs of pay restoration
@wesstreeting has chosen to waste a colossal amount of taxpayer money, all because of his ego
@fletchjack@RuthDevlin@KarlTurnerMP My brother would have been available to help, but he was unable to get his next training post so instead he is interviewing in Australia.
@unfilteredphil_@wesstreeting More doctors have left the country this year than any on record.
The strikers are standing up for the future of doctors in this country and the presevation of our profession. If we do not, in the future when there are no doctors left WE will be to blame for not taking action
@unfilteredphil_@wesstreeting We are striking to stand up for the future of the medical profession in this country. We are striking as doctors should not be unemployed. We are striking because patients DESERVE to see a doctor.
But with govt propaganda I don't expect the public to understand or support us
@wesstreeting has unwittingly got to the heart of the issue.
He is asking resident doctors to continue funding the health service by poor pay.
It is his job to ensure effective workforce planning & respectful working conditions.
Resident doctors shouldn’t have to pay for them.
@wesstreeting We are fed up of empty promises
We won't stop being angry until our pay is addressed!
We have had the largest pay increase of public sector only because we have had the largest pay CUT. Please stop the propaganda
@wesstreeting London doctors are ANGRY about this and will vote to call off strikes if this is increased. It will need to be increased anyway soon as is long overdue so may as well address this now
@wesstreeting Other doctors who do not have the luxury of family help CANNOT AFFORD TO LIVE IN LONDON and are priced out!
THIS NEEDS TO BE URGENTLY ADDRESSED
@wesstreeting For clarification we earn £2160 london weighting
Other nhs staff eg clinical nurse specialists, psychologists etc earn £7000-8000
This makes no sense and needs more attention
@wesstreeting London weighting has not increased for doctors for TWENTY FIVE years
Other NHS staff get 3-4x as much as doctors
I rely on family help for housing as a registrar in my 30s
If you increase london weighting to what other senior NHS staff get I will vote YES to call off strikes
@fletchjack London weighting has not increased for doctors for TWENTY FIVE YEARS
Other NHS staff get 3-4x as much Ldn weighting than Doctors
The only explanation for this is BMA have not advocated for London doctors and this needs to be urgently addressed !
@fletchjack It is ridiculous that as a registrar in my 30s married to another doctor I need family help to afford housing.
Other doctors who do not have this luxury will be priced out of London
