Retired - lots of volunteering, so plenty of time to tweet/retweet and update my FB status with (mostly) provocative comments. Humanist. Increasingly shouty.
As of 4.00pm today the candidates were confirmed, and the race for the Clacton by-election is officially on between @CountBinface & @Nigel_Farage. Here's our parody of "Englishman in New York" by #Sting - titled "Garbage Can Who Can Talk" - to reflect on the challenger ๐ถ๐

Itโs what autocrats do. @andyburnham is no man of the people. Heโs a mini Trump, without the clout Trump has. Does whatever he feels like. To hell with whether people want it or not. No wonder he didnโt want a contest.
@GeriEllenMay True for me too. I am thinking of voting Lib Dems mostly because they are taking on a local issue which I feel strongly about. Local labour MP is great and so it's a really difficult decision for me because I want to support her but not AB. I am now ex lab party member.
Today, we express our special gratitude to Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with whom we've done a lot of serious work during the full-scale war. The United Kingdom has always stood with Ukraine and continues to do so. And we value that immensely. Thank you, @Keir_Starmer. Thank you to your team and to all the people of the United Kingdom. I awarded Keir the Order of Freedom in recognition of his personal leadership and support for our people.
Prime Minister Starmer and I have had dozens of meetings, conversations, and decisions together. Today marks Keir's fourth visit to Ukraine as Prime Minister. Altogether, we've had 46 official meetings and calls alone โ at least two every month. I am grateful for all the support provided to Ukraine during this time.
Today, Keir and I discussed the key issues regarding the front line, our long-range operations, and our mid-range strikes. Ukraine has achieved significant success in these areas, and we will continue applying every form of such pressure on Russia to bring this war to an end and achieve a dignified peace. We will, of course, continue coordinating closely with our British friends.
@Vinc_Ev_ Cardiff resident here. The area is normally extremely busy and crowded. Obviously been cleared for this nonsense. Nobody fooled by this staged performance
The true import of what Starmer did behind the scenes after Trumpโs return to power to support Ukraine, rally Europe behind Kyiv and diplomatically beat off Putin when it comes to Washington remains a story not fully told. Much of it quite rightly confidential and classified. But in due course, how pivotal this moment was and what he achieved as a diplomat will come to be seen as one of the most complex and against the odds successes of British diplomacy. Together Starmer and Macron have stabilised what was almost a very bad situation โ the task now falls to Burnham to sustain this and react with similar subtlety at the next twist.
@annemflfc@suzyquiquero For someone who believes in duty and responsibilty this is very likely to be untrue. What is more likely is that he will not stand at the next GE
'This the end of my political journey' says it all for me. Sounds like he will not stand at the next election. What a huge loss for the country and for parliament. I hope he will be offered a post on the international stage, where he will be a tremendous asset. Our loss.
