@createstreets I’m currently in Helsinki and blown away by the community hub/living room, Oodi. Do you know of any other truly great community hubs around the world?
@RestIsPolitics@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK The UK is sometimes referred to as a combination of Singapore (London/SE) and Portugal (the rest). Do either of you think it’s possible for rUK to catch up with regions in GER, FRA, NL, CAN or AUS whilst not to the detriment of London/SE’s growth?
@MhairiHunter@CambeulJan@EddieBarnes23 There’s a major gulf between profit making and selling well below market value. In reality, what would the difference to time scales have been in auctioning piecemeal over the course of a year or two to determine market price? Near enough none - much like the windfall we’ve made
@RichardJMurphy@wesstreeting@UKLabour Don’t dispute that, but do you have any quantitative evidence? Or able to link to any papers? I’m really interested in this!
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret Taking a leaf out of FDR’s book, if you were to assemble a brains trust to help Britain out of the issues we face today, who would be the five or six names you’d suggest?
@thomasforth @slowbikeiain So basically a mass migration of older adults and disabled population to our urban centres lest they be left behind? I can see your argument from an efficiency and economic basis, but that doesn’t sounds like an inclusive, accessible or civilised Britain to me!
@Kit_Yates_Maths It’s a tragedy! We tried to make sense of it and some short term solutions last week (Scotland focused). Would be interested in your thoughts: https://t.co/wBtkvSAKjo
@JohnSimpsonNews Before you leave, I just want to say it was an honour to have met you at Cheltenham Lit Fest in 2017. Fiercely intelligent, but incredibly humble, you more than lived up to expectations!
@Tobias_Ellwood What have we been doing since February? Surely our unique vulnerabilities would’ve been raised in COBRA meetings and acted upon? Why are we so incredibly slow to build resilience?
@prime1959@RobertJUsher@BBCPolitics Yes, Parliament does things differently - because running a country is its role. Johnson should either prepare the nation for the coming winter or just leave now. Swanning about in fighter jets and long weekends in Chequers is just having a laugh at our (taxpayer) expense!
@prime1959@RobertJUsher@BBCPolitics I’m sure you’d feel the exact same way if Alfreton fired their manager near the end of the season and he stuck around for the last 4 games not giving a toss...
@RestIsPolitics@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK In his Fringe show, Rory mentioned that our bureaucracy results in little actually being achieved. Do any liberal democracies get bureaucracy right (Germany, Scandinavia?) or are our advanced, highly complex systems now no longer manageable?
@MrMKimber@TomTugendhat Pleased to see your pick for PM is helping sustain incomes in Tonbridge whilst cutting those up in Tyldesley. Disappointment doesn’t even cover it - a compete dereliction of duty to supporting those worst off in our society!!
@RestIsPolitics@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK Question for next week: the Grattan Institute in Australia publish an annual reading list for the PM to read over Summer. If you were to suggest a reading list to the PM (or future PM), what would you suggest?
@RoryStewartUK Just heard you’re editing down your latest book. Can’t wait to read it! And I’ll be sure to try and get a signed edition to add to my collection!!
