I can’t stop thinking about these workers. And the failures at cal-osha. And how people should know that their new countertops cost young men their lives. We have to do better. https://t.co/ViSjbZdkri
There are times when the best you can do is be present for your patients, silence your own overbearing voice, and listen
I literally carry an instrument to amplify their hearts’ sounds, to record their rate and rhythm
But how often do I pause to hear their content?
Not enough
This is why, even now, I’ve never succumbed to hubris regarding the dangers of Covid. We REALLY want it to be “just a cold,” but it’s not a cold. It’s neurological, and it’s stealthier than us. Those who have friends with “long Covid” know it’s no joke: https://t.co/Lv23uBQKtd
@rrhoover Super common and typically improves on its own — inflamed nerves can take a loong time to resolve. But maybe think about any repetitive or forceful arm/hand movements that could be exacerbating it (Not medical advice ✌️ but hang in there!)
You may have heard that the GI and cancer specialists recently lowered the screening age to 45, and it's because of more cancers in younger people now. Rates AND deaths are going down in people over 50, and going UP in younger people:

uworld: a fence-builder develops skin and neurological symptoms
me: ????
uworld: are you dumb? pressure-treated wood contains arsenic, so it’s obviously arsenic poisoning
I can’t emphasize enough on the importance of making sure our patients actually understand what we’re telling them. I recently met a pt w/ worsening cancer burden that all this time thought she was getting better because her doctors had told her she was “progressing”.
Often, walking can be a tricky demand to define in a job description.
That 3/4 ring around the barber chair is evidence of some significant walking over a very short distance, every day.
A thread about using fonts/typography in presentations. Decisions about text matter. Just as you can speak the same word in many ways, the way you write text can affect communication, emotion, and attitude. 🧵1/19
@akeekazi@imcatnoone Reminds me of when the Last of Us Part 2 got lots of acclaim for how it brought accessible design to the forefront https://t.co/gi3EWdNTPV
You can see this in a histogram of all marathon times.
People are really good at accomplishing their goals—lots of people get marathon timings right below 3, 3.5, 4 hrs, etc
Humans are motivated by goals, and these goals are influenced by our intrinsic optimism of our potential
@marklewismd Very interesting… Wondering how many good people you could draw in by adding more outpatient time to the rotation schedule (Thinking back, I don’t think I had any!)
