@spamlorde @shagbark_hick However this is not precise enough for long exposures bc mechanical imprecision. So what you do is have a smaller telescope attached to the main tube, called a guide scope, which has its own camera and does short exposures, enough to see a couple of the brighter stars

@shagbark_hick They're doing astrophoto rather than looking at stuff. Scope is on one galaxy for hundreds of hours, collecting every photon. And then they apply quite a bit of statistics to the resulting data to get the sort of images you'd feel require Hubble to obtain
