A Monkey Captured and Beaten by a Crowd in Haryana — Cruelty Must Not Go Unpunished

The disturbing incident of a monkey being captured and beaten by a crowd in Haryana raises serious concerns about animal cruelty and wildlife protection.

An animal in distress is not an object for public amusement. Surrounding, capturing and violently beating a helpless creature causes unnecessary pain and suffering. Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 expressly addresses acts such as beating, torturing or otherwise subjecting an animal to unnecessary pain or suffering. (IndiaCode)

Depending on the species and circumstances, provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 may also be attracted. Several macaque species are specifically protected under the Act. (IndiaCode)

The authorities should identify those responsible, preserve the available video evidence, rescue and medically examine the animal, and take appropriate legal action.

Violence against a voiceless animal is not entertainment.
It is cruelty—and cruelty must have consequences.

El 12 de diciembre, a las seis de la mañana, la explanada de la Basílica amaneció llena de cobijas, flores marchitas y perros que nadie regresó a buscar. ⛪

Soy vigilante ahí. Cada año es lo mismo: llegan millones de peregrinos caminando desde sus pueblos, y muchos perros vienen con ellos. Unos tienen dueño. Otros nomás se pegan al grupo por un taco y un poco de calor.

Rosario llegó así, detrás de un grupo de peregrinos. Caminó con ellos quién sabe cuántos kilómetros.

Cuando terminaron de rezar, los peregrinos se subieron a sus camiones y se regresaron a su pueblo. Ella se quedó en la explanada, mirando hacia la avenida. 🚌

Los de seguridad les damos de comer a los que se quedan. Le pusimos agua. Esperamos varios días, por si alguien volvía por ella.

Unos veterinarios de la ciudad la revisaron y le amarraron un listón morado en el cuello, para que se supiera que ya la habían visto. 💜

Nadie volvió.

Al final pasó la brigada de control animal y se llevó a los que nadie reclamó. A Rosario también, con su listón morado todavía puesto. 🕯️
