Like cloud computing enabled the transition to SaaS , AI computing will enable the transition to Outcome-as-a-Service (OaaS).

My first job out of Cal in the late 90s was integrating the i2 supply chain software with Oracle ERP with the full baggage of Big 3 consultants. It felt like Software had become more of a problem than a solution as I went through that never ending project.

Rightfully so - we were at the beginnings of SaaS … what was then called ASP for Application Service Providers. I did a short stint at Vinod Khosla-backed Corio which had noticed the problem & was putting software in the cloud. Corio didn’t work out but Salesforce built on the learnings of ASPs like Corio and SaaS was born.

Similarly, AI is enabling another big shift and potentially the transition to OaaS to deliver outcomes.
