The Importance of Good Nutrition for Kids https://t.co/aeqiNZvHqW
As a kid I remember not being a big fan of vegetables having broccoli in soups or veggie smoothies can be a good way to fulfill recommended needs for iron, calcium & vit c
@beh353#beh353
Don't throw away broccoli stems! 🥦
Broccoli stalks/stems (leaves too) are just as nutritious as florets. In fact, several sources suggest the calcium, iron and Vitamin C content may be slightly higher in the stalks than in the florets.
Broccoli & Broccoli Sprouts have higher levels of sulforaphane than any other cruciferous vegetable.
Sulforaphane is a powerful chemical compound responsible for removing the harmful toxins from our cells - slowing aging.
Broccoli sprouts are also concentrated sources of glucosinolates like glucoraphanin, and they've been shown to help promote insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels.
What contains the highest concentration of sulphoraphane? Broccoli sprouts. broccoli sprouts provide around 100X more than the mature plant.
To receive the most benefit, adding powdered dry mustard has been shown to dramatically boost sulphoraphane and other compounds.

After watching this weeks video as a future healthcare provider being understanding and empathetic can help comfort a patient. Paying attention to patients symptoms will help break the biases between physicians and patients who are obese.

@SmethersEliza@beh353 Hey Eliza!

@scottyyuen @beh353 Hi Scotty, obesity in low income communities may be high since there is a lack of budget friendly health foods. I think this important to share with patients to keep them healthy.
@beh353#beh353
Pre pandemic obesity in adults had an upward trend and during the pandemic it also increased this could be due to people being anxious and overeating due to the situation the world was in with a deadly disease
@beh353#beh353
After watching the video for this week I was surprised that obesity in children is more likely in adulthood as well. Having access to health and nutrient dense foods may positively impact the obesity epidemic.
@beh353#beh353
Barriers I have are sticking with nutrient dense foods when choosing a quick snack/meal when short on time. A lot of fast foods near school or work dont offer the best ingredients but when I can I try to opt for chipotle.
@beh353#beh353
I always like to snack when im studying. Switching out my chips for nutrient dense trail mix would help my body keep up with the time I put into my school work. My DIY trail mix would be almonds, pretzels, apricots and chocolate!
@beh353#beh353
“I don’t always pack #snacks for air travel, but when I do I typically pack small packaged nutrient- and calorie-dense items to help keep me satisfied and my hunger at bay for longer periods of time," IFIC's @SCRDinDC explained to @HuffPost- https://t.co/1rF2ggPo8Q
@MercedesRo99901@beh353 Hey Mercedes!
I experienced this too especially during midterms its hard to keep up with meal prep. I try to prepare my ingredients it helps a little but I till but fast food when I stay at school longer than expected.
@beh353#beh353
When I start feeling like im going to get sick I try to drink emergency vitamins c, raspberry flavored to help my immune system. The supplement is high in vitamin C but other ways to get vit C are through bell peppers or strawberries.

A little shocking supplements aren’t regulated 😮 Some supplements to add into a diet are daily multivitamins and omega-3, they make sure you’re covered on the recommended vitamin intake and aid in heart health!
