@BoyishGirlie A think a lot of Frieren’s charm comes down to the fact that it’s so obviously being made up as it goes. It’s an evolving DnD campaign, not a sourcebook. It does result in some real issues like this, but ultimately I think “world lore” is just not much of a concern for the writer
@MattZeitlin He didn’t really blow the 2016 general, but I don’t mind the hate he gets because he does deserve it for completely whiffing the Republican primary
@ettingermentum Literally same. After the 2016 election I decided I should learn more about politics, and after starting to read The Atlantic/NYT Opinion/etc. I very quickly realized "oh, these guys are just lazy and stupid. I wonder if there are any serious thinkers somewhere else."
@sophiathehell @crackernomicly @JillayneMC@ettingermentum The candidate has approximately one hundred million times more responsibility than any individual voter.
@Srirachachau Bittersweet Life to Good the Bad the Weird to I Saw the Devil is an absolutely insane actor/director combo run, probably my favorite of the 21st century
@frayedform The most vocal fans online are more likely to have replayed the games multiple times, and I think elements like exploration, vibes, level design etc. become less impactful the more you replay.
@souljagoyteller I haven’t used 4chan in many years, but the big joke of /lit/ was always that they would make lists like this, but all the threads would just be discussions of fantasy and sci-fi series instead of any of these books
@BOENSAW An under appreciated point of the run backs is to give you an out - instead of just bashing your head against Last Judge for hours, you either commit to the run back or hop on the Bell Beast and go somewhere else for a bit. The game tells you to go take a walk and cool off!
@Goldxn_Violin A big part of the terror in the book is that you actually believe the 50s bullies would kill a kid, and it’s a lot harder to buy that level of threat from an 80s bully
@jeremy24tyler@coopercooperco Lockjaw found them pretty easily once he actually started looking, so if trouble ever comes again they’re better off being in a community that knows them and can help instead of starting over on their own
