Interested in tackling machine learning? ML at Berkeley is starting its Spring 2023 Recruiting Season! We work with cutting-edge industry partners, push the boundaries of ML through research, create educational opportunities for the UC Berkeley community, & more (thread):
Last month, ML@B showed up to present work and interact with the frontier of ML research at @NeurIPSConf! We had such a great time meeting the top names in tech, presenting ML@B’s work, and interacting with companies in New Orleans. Stay tuned for our spring recruiting!
A quick summary of what OpenAI lead researcher @markchen90 and artist @DonAllenIII said about artists and creativity at @TheAtlantic Progress Summit this week. You can also check it out on TikTok

And that’s a wrap for NeurIPS 22! Had a blast meeting ML researchers from around the world, learning that Disney Research is a thing, and getting beignets with @BerkeleyML. Feeling inspired! 🧠💡
We've been working on some cool projects recently, including rl + language, drone aviation, and ML for multimodal single-cell integration (cc @LatchBio), and have several members presenting their work this week! We'd love to chat more with everyone at NeurIPS!
Introducing Pollock: a single-cell browser for live transformations on massive datasets.
- Browse, edit, or create annotations
- Subcluster and re-do dim reduction
- Visualize differential gene expression
- Track all transformations and analyses

Personally, I would love to see more papers entitled "XXX alone is not enough," instead of those entitled "XXX is all you need." To intelligence, we are all blind men to an elephant. A more systematic view would make us more humble and the subject of intelligence more intriguing.
Does information theory have a role to play in reinforcement learning ? Check out our recent blog post by Ashwin Reddy to learn how adding entropy to the RL objective can provably make robots more robust in dealing with unexpected obstacles and more !
