Two huge music publishers just sued Anthropic, accusing them of conducting “a brazen campaign of illegally torrenting, scraping, and downloading copyrighted works on a massive scale”.

They also sued two Anthropic co-founders, Dario Amodei and Ben Mann.

A reminder that the following are established facts already (they came out in another lawsuit):

- Ben Mann downloaded the massive pirate library LibGen a few months after co-founding Anthropic (he had also downloaded it previously while at OpenAI)

- Anthropic also downloaded other pirate libraries, eg PiLiMi

- Claude 1 & Claude 2 were trained on pirated books

***1 in 1000*** accounts banned posted SOME tweets about data centers (their tweets got ~no views) YET their headline is all about datacenters?

They even cropped out the view counts from the tweets, which would have showed these tweets got no views.

Until then I continue to see this as more of an attempt by the industry to spin research as advocacy (blaming data center opposition on China) rather than a sober diagnosis of a large/widespread problem. Newer Flock cameras do not just record vehicles. They record people. Flock’s AI system can combine images of you and your vehicle with databases of phone numbers, relatives and court records to find out who you are, where you're going and why.

In my view, this raises some very fundamental questions. Do we want to live in an America where AI companies like Flock can work with the government to track our every movement? Do we want to live in an America where our privacy rights and civil liberties — enshrined in the Constitution — are traded away so that AI oligarchs can collect more information, and increase their profits even more?

The answer must be NO. We cannot allow America to become a surveillance state where a handful of AI oligarchs profit by giving the government the power to track our every movement.

We must come together to stop Flock and AI mass surveillance. That is why I will soon be introducing legislation to do just that.
