@VicVijayakumar@JOEtheLuckiest Candidly... I suck so much it tempts me to put too much time in it to get better at the cost of higher priority time investments.
Somehow I made it work through marriage + grad school (CoD: Black Ops was 🤌) ... but kids changed the game.
ARC lets me sneak and avoid contact.
@JOEtheLuckiest@VicVijayakumar We've done a number of them. Diablo 1-3, Minecraft, No Man's Sky, Void Crew. I've been itching for an extraction shooter, so we kept our eye on ARC.
I think our plan is to do 2 teams of two and see if we can get voice coms over discord and 🤞that we wind up on the same server.
@VicVijayakumar Yep! We had our eye on it for a few weeks, alongside a few others. When it went on sale, we collectively pulled the trigger, in a manner of speaking.
@CJHandmer The none-too-subtle Rickover name-drop at the end of Groves' book was just too much, huh? :D
I followed up with Stormin' Norman's autobiography, but I may have to circle back to this one.
Me: It costs nothing to be polite...
9yo: WRONG... it costs ~$9.5M/year
Me: ... frankly, it's on you if "Please", "Thank You" and "You're Welcome" aren't trivial cache hits.
Polite users and LLMs are wasting millions of dollars!
Napkin math:
> Say "Please" and "thank you" costs ~3 tokens per ChatGPT exchange.
> At GPT-4o rates, that's ~$0.00003 each time.
> Multiply by 800M chats/day and that's "wasting" ~$9.5M/year on politeness 😅

I leave CERN to work in AI and settle in Abilene, TX to raise a family...
... and then OpenAI builds a $500B GPU compute cluster 5 miles from my house, to solve physics problems.
Wonder what the universe is trying to tell me 😅.
I love physicists.
> Yes we did the math, and I think we're all in agreement on the calc. and the results.
> Excellent, oh BTW, what's the uncertainty on that?
> Uncertainty? It's [checks notes]... a factor of 10.

@davidbessis I think what people mean when they say "nobody understands quantum mechanics" is that the better you understand the model of nature, the more you realize that you don't understand the thing the model represents.
Sharing this A+ analysis on the Luka trade by the always insightful @chris_kratovil
Makes a ton of sense to me from the #txlege angle - esp considering Lite Patrick likely done next Session.
Good stuff. Read it 👇🏼

"Oh, I'm a *pure* mathematician, I don't write code/do calculations/etc.."
"Oh, I'm a *theoretical* physicist, I don't do experiments/analyze data/etc.."
Etc.
These kinds of statements are typically uttered with an air of intellectual smugness. But what are they really? (1/6)
one of the best things I ever did by accident was go to college in the Midwest
first, because I met my wife there
second, because I got to see a different social status game than the one people play in the northeast
