Neighbors sprung into action today in Sylmar, after noticing fire alarms sounding and smoke emanating from a bedroom next door. Their quick thinking and courageous action prior to LAFD's arrival helped saved a home.
@BrianHumphrey I agree, but in your case you’ve had a remarkable career and are a remarkable person of legendary status. Thank you for leaving the LAFD and the fire service better than you found it.
It was an honor to have the heroes of the @LAFD onstage with us & in the audience last night. They are living proof that, in fact, sometimes darkness can show you the light 🖤🙏

As highlighted in a previous post, the @LAFD's Regional Task Force 9 (#RTF9) was mobilized on July 30, 2024 by @CAL_OES to the (nearly 60K acres at this moment) #BorelFire” #wildfire in #KernCounty, California, ~120 miles north of #LosAngeles.
As RTF9 continues to work tirelessly alongside @KernCoSheriff in conducting extensive search operations, many have asked about California's #RegionalTaskForce program and RTF9.
California's *Regional* Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) system is comprised of 12 identically trained and equipped multidisciplinary teams that can be swiftly deployed on a local or statewide basis to focus on locating, rescuing/extricating and providing initial medical stabilization of victims trapped in confined spaces.
Though structural collapse is most often the cause of victims being trapped, responses may also include transportation incidents, mines and collapsed trenches.
Because #UrbanSearchAndRescue is a “multi-hazard” discipline, California's Regional Task Forces may be summoned to a variety of emergencies or disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, storms and tornadoes, floods, dam failures, technological accidents, terrorist activities, mud slides, hazardous materials releases - and as is the case this week: wildfires.
This recent video, featured on @LACityView35's popular "L.A. This Week", highlights how the men and women of #LAFD RTF9 train and prepare.
Our hearts are heavy, as we stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters from Los Angeles County Fire Department to honor their fallen, Firefighter Andrew Pontious. Rest in peace, brother. @LACOFD
SAN PEDRO - Your @LAFD was honored to participate in @LAFleetWeek 2024 on the @LAWaterfront in the @PortOfLA.
Though the big attraction for everyone (including your #firefighters) was a chance to meet the outstanding men and women of our sea services, including the @USNavy@USCG and tour their amazing vessels, including the #USSCarlVinson #CVN70, we were honored to be among the many landside agencies engaging with the crowd.
Among the #LAFD crews participating were responders from #HarborCity based Fire Station 85, who provided a "hands-on" display of apparatus, equipment and techniques used to perform specialized rescues.
They were joined by LAFD Community Emergency Response Team and @MySafeLA volunteers sharing safety tips and #HandsOnlyCPR demonstrations, as the recruitment staff from @JoinLAFD engaged with those interested in making the #LAFD their life's work.
Our hearty thanks to all who joined us at #FleetWeekLA!
The men and women of @LAFD congratulate Captain Richard Moody in being selected as the #LosAngeles Firefighters Association's 2023 #Firefighter of the Year!
His award luncheon will be held on April 18, 2024 in Universal City. All are welcome!

Fire and Police Departments from Los Angeles City, Burbank, and Glendale gathered with Burbank Airport fire/police and staff to practice a large-scale airport emergency. The simulation included an aircraft down with live fire, over 60 passengers/patients to account for, and multiple agencies coming together into an Incident Command System, which was first developed in Southern California in the 1970's, and now used Nationwide. These multi-agency trainings allow for collaborative learning and practice with interoperability (especially with radio frequencies).
We want to thank #CaraDelevingne for the kind words she offered. We were so happy to find the beloved felines were okay!
While no two emergencies are exactly the same, we encourage everyone to include your pets in an emergency plan to give them the best chance. For tips, visit https://t.co/fkxCDOiGqP, and build an emergency kit for your pets today!

As firefighters, we take our task to protect property seriously, whether fighting fire in a shed or a mansion. But sometimes there's a little extra pride and joy that comes with saving a building as iconic as the Baked Potato, founded 54 years ago.
When fire broke out in a detached rear portion of the business (audio/visual equipment room) on Cahenga this morning, firefighter rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames before the main building became involved.
We hope the community continues to enjoy this local Studio City venue for years to come, and we are happy to now be a part of the history of this famous Jazz Club.
