@wang_seaver Similar construct would apply eg for Canadian LNG exports used to affect coal-to-gas fuel switching in SEAsia. The unit of sharing is called an #ITMO (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcome). US LNG or decarbonization tech of course excluded so long as US out of Paris
@wang_seaver There is no uncertainty here under accounting rules of the Paris Agreement, the emission reductions accrue to deploying country against its baseline emissions / NDC commitments. But credit can be shared w China/tech/resource suppliers via the #Article6.2 carbon market mechanism

SEARCH is proud to participate in the Government of Belize's blue carbon pilot project. Led by the Government of Belize and Brightwater Collective, the project will serve as a model for scalable, science-driven climate action that delivers measurable emissions reductions, supports sustainable livelihoods, and strengthens the resilience of Belize’s coastal ecosystems and communities.
Together with @Stantec, JLL, Climate Wedge, and the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, we will leverage our expertise in cultural heritage, coastal and marine science, carbon markets, and finance to further Belize's #BlueEconomy.

On this horrific anniversary — three years of Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine— thinking of all my courageous, heroic Ukrainian friends. I am simply in awe of the Ukrainian people!
I'm continually surprised by how rare mental arithmetic skill is among technical people. It's about as hard to learn as riding a bike (ie not hard) and it puts first principles thinking on warp drive. With daily practice you can quickly get faster results than using a calculator even for complicated operations. It also greatly improves physical intuition. I see it as a kind of literacy.
"If America wants a sort of small-batch, artisan solar sector to give the impression it’s doing the work of staving off climate change, while going all-in on expanding petroleum production instead, then it’s hit on the right policy."
@davidfickling pulling no punches here.

Wanted to share a bit about what I have been working on 🏗️
At Halcyon, we’re building a data platform to help those navigating decarbonization. Our purpose is to speed up their journey (1/5) ⚡️

Good reminder to those casting removal stones from carbon negative ivory towers & data centers, there is no intrinsic value to emission reductions or removals, these are +ve externalities that must be monetized thru market mechanisms where all the complexity and value traps lie
Some advice, inspired by a recent chat with a #CarbonRemoval startup.
No, it's not about when your #CDR method will be included in the #EUETS.
Because this is only a consequence.
The EU ETS is used to achieve the EU's climate targets. Hence, if your activity is not part of the 2030 climate target, you want to make sure that it is within the scope of the upcoming 2040 climate target proposal.
Because the ETS and all other policy tools will first and foremost be revised to incentivise the achievement of the 2040 climate target. If your activity is within the scope - congratulations, this is a good start. You will benefit from the incentives.
If your activity is not within the scope of the 2040 target, this might mean your next chance to benefit from the compliance #carbonmarkets is from 2041 onwards - still 17 years away.
So first, make sure your activity is in the scope of the 2040 climate target. You probably have less than a year to make it happen (see my blog post for the timeline: https://t.co/3KXzEmQ9cf)
Good luck!
The US @CFTC recently proposed guidance for verifying the quality of #carbon offsets. 💵🌳
To help break down the new guidance, we talked with @axrau about the proposal, its implications for voluntary carbon markets, and more.
