this is literally my story.
5 months ago i got hired as growth lead / head of content, and they never asked for my CV:
> i was 20, a 3rd year student at an indian college
> 6.5 CGPA, zero corporate experience
> all they looked at was the product i'd built and the posts i was writing
> since then at @CrowdReply_io : 0 to ~17K followers on X
> ~10M impressions
> helped drive ~$350K ARR
hector, this video is basically my life right now. every founder hiring a marketer should watch it ๐
My first internship paid โน15,000 a month.
About two years later, I'm a founding engineer at an AI startup at a very good compensation just after graduating from @bitspilaniindia , that too when my degree was in Electrical Engineering.
3 things actually moved the needle:
1. Hackathons were my real interviews.
My first win in April 2024 paid โน75,000 and pulled me into Web3. Then $3,000 from Superteam for Defiant, a voice agent for Web3. Then 1st place in the agentic AI track at Starknet Hacker Games, the turning point of my life. Then $2,000 at the Aptos hackathon.
A resume says you can build. A hackathon proves it in 48 hours, in front of people who hire.
2. Paid open source is real, and most students don't know it exists.
I got into the Protocol Labs Developer Guild (PLDG) and earned around $8,000 shipping PRs to real projects. Real codebases, real reviews, real money.
Hackathons plus open source added up to around $14,000 while I was still in college.
3. Never bet everything on one offer.
I got a PPO at @trovesfi, a Web3 startup, and skipped college placements for it. Then market conditions got it revoked.
So I said yes to everything. I spent June to August doing growth at @Gullynest1 : listed multiple properties, called tenants and landlords, tried experimenting with Meta ads (oh boy). Then TenetX, a 300% jump over my last role.
Not the best path i had but yes it was plan B I should have had from day one.
The path, briefly: web dev in first year โ first hackathon โ โน15k internship โ Eddy Finance (2x pay, a DeFi app with 1.3M+ wallets) โ LogX ( Perps Trading and distributed systems) โ Troves (hedging strategies, Dca vaults ) โ Gullynest โ TenetX.
I'll share how I did each of these, properly. What do you want first?
A) How to win hackathons
B) How to get paid for open source
C) How I prepared for interviews after the PPO fell through
thank you for this hector, really needed it
same thing happened to me. got hired at 20 with no CV, and in 5 months i've grown @CrowdReply_io to almost 17K followers and 10M+ impressions
i've been following you on instagram for a long time and you've honestly inspired me a lot, starting my own video content soon because of you
BREAKING: Today, we witnessed the future of marketing.
Introducing Citation Outreach
A profitable company can add +$3M/month just by getting recommended by ChatGPT. 12 months ago nobody believed this was possible.
Here's what changed:
People don't Google anymore. They ask ChatGPT.
"What's the best tool for [Category]?"
"Which [Category] tool/service should I use?"
ChatGPT gives them 3 or 4 names. Those brands get the customer. Everyone else doesn't exist.
So how does ChatGPT pick those names?
It reads what other websites say. Listicles, comparisons, reviews, how-to guides. The brands that keep getting mentioned there are the ones it recommends.
Citation Outreach gets your brand mentioned on those exact websites.
We find them, reach out to the people who run them, and get your brand offsite mentions. Fully done for you.
You just watch your brand start showing up in the answers.
This is absolutely insane.
