PI @UniklinikEssen @unidue_zmb, adjunct @pmcancercentre. Systems Biology & Heterogeneity Lab.
Came for the science, stayed for the phenomenal people. She/her
So excited to share this with you all!😃@rmkhokha and I revisit a core assumption in cancer biology: is tumour heterogeneity a reflection of disorganization? Our thoughts on how self-organization shapes tumour tissues, and why that matters for oncology: https://t.co/c3iTg9oIsJ
Terrific preprint by @hartjackson using imaging mass cytometry (IMC) & matched genomics for building multimodality prediction models:
Integrated spatial proteomics of human PDAC uncovers an expanded tumour–immune– stroma spectrum with genomic associations

Proud to share @niseto’s (new PI @TheCrick) paper:
As a postdoc (@CSHL/@HopkinsMedicine), he found #NETs in necrotic tumors—I shrugged. But he looked closer: NETs block tumor vessel perfusion, causing necrosis, hypoxia, EMT & #Metastasis.

First day @EurPancClub 57th meeting in Düsseldorf https://t.co/XJZ40R2wrr 🤯🤯🤯 Joint post-graduate course with @ESP_Pathology: Great start with excellent pathology talk by Volkan Adsay 👏🥇💥💥💥
Funny how two of the more interesting pieces of data at #ASCO25 have little to do with extraneous medications per se, but rather the body’s circadian rhythm and physiology:
1: Exercise after surgery
2: Checkpoint inhibitors in the morning
It took 3 years, 4 rounds of reviews, 96 VISIUM samples, 10 cancer types, and 1 clinical trial, but it's finally out:
The spatial landscape of Cancer Hallmarks reveals patterns of tumor ecological dynamics and drug sensitivity

🚨New paper alert: Intratumoral co-existence of PDAC subtypes -- what's the environmental drivers and underlying mechanisms?
A fantastic collaboration with @ShivKSingh6's team, just out in @NatureComms !👨🔬
💜 It is extra sweet to see this work having impact because it was 100% driven by collaboration.
A shoutout to phenomenal colleagues who just never hesitate to offer their best, including @rmkhokha@KislingerThomas@LabNotta ...
Another seminal paper - this one from @BarbaraGrnwald & @rmkhokha in @CellCellPress on Spatially confined sub-tumor microenvironments in #PancreaticCancer really helped define the concept of "neighborhoods" in this disease. Published in 2021 and cited close to 300 times.

Which are the highest cited original research publications in #PancreaticCancer over the past five years (from 2020 to 2024 end)?
All metrics obtained from Google Scholar (caveat: GS tends to OVERESTIMATE citations but the trends are consistent overall).

📢We are hiring on several levels: research admin (50%), PhD student and post-doc! 🧑🔬👩🔬🧪🧬🧫
Official job postings to follow but if you already agree that tumor ecosystems and translational systems biology are totally awesome...
