@MCCCANM “Flying rubber dogsh1t out of Hong Kong.”
🙋 Yes, please in the 1980s. 300k salary, paid off now multimillion HK house, and a 1 million handshake retirement payment at 55. Maybe it’s folklore, but HK-based pilots did well in that era.
@ColinJEly1@mercoglianos As a Canadian, Sal gives me solace knowing there are many 10’s of millions if not 100’s of millions of smart Americans like him. 🫡
@MCCCANM I read once that the parachutes were a carryover from the SAC days where -135 crews would fly a one way mission with the B-52s then bail out once out of fuel. I’m not sure if that is true or not.
@VolundMfg Anecdotally, my airline at one point had two brands. The mainline brand charged for checked luggage and the ULCC brand did not. Regularly, the ULCC could load 189 pax 737 in 25mins whereas the Mainline takes 40mins for 174.
@VolundMfg Airlines have experimented with this and say results are similar. Carry on bag bulk out is the main culprit. New economy basic fares with carry on limits have had a noticeable effect to OTP.
@zodiaceng@Xaraphim Anyways, cool to see how these young guys were able to work in small teams and make amazing products, free of bureaucracy. I’m happy to see you guys do it again on your own. Best of luck.
@zodiaceng@Xaraphim It’s Canadian and any dudes designing it are long retired. The pipe diffuser has its lineage to the PT6A. Here’s a neat video on those old engineers.
