#sapsEC The #SAPS in the Eastern Cape is issuing an urgent appeal to the public for donations of dogs to bolster its #K9Units. A critical shortage of suitable dogs is currently impairing essential crime-fighting, #SearchAndRescue, and detection operations across the province.

To be considered, dogs must be healthy, confident, energetic, and not fearful of people or loud noises. Preferred breeds include German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Labrador Retrievers, Rottweilers, Bloodhounds, Border Collies, Jack Russell and Dutch Shepherds.

Selection Criteria is as follows:

🐾For Detection & Search Roles: Dogs intended for narcotics, explosives, firearm detection, or search and rescue must demonstrate a high play/prey drive, shown by an intense focus on and desire to chase balls or toys.

🐾For Patrol and Apprehension Roles: Dogs to be trained for patrol duties must display a non-emotional, predatory sequence prey drive, which is associated with controlled aggression necessary for suspect apprehension and protection work.

[POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED FOR DEFEATING THE ENDS OF JUSTICE AND POSSESSION OF SUSPECTED STOLEN GOODS]

A Warrant Officer, who serves as the current acting branch (Detectives) commander at Langlaagte SAPS, has been arrested together with a female accomplice on charges of defeating the ends of justice and possession of suspected stolen goods. The arrest follows an intelligence-driven operation concerning stolen stock traced to the Johannesburg Market in City Deep.

Upon arrival at the premises, police engaged with the shop owner and conducted a search, which led to the recovery of 32 pallets of Super Maize Meal, valued at approximately R300,000, concealed inside a storage facility.

When questioned regarding the origin of the goods, the owner alleged that he had been instructed by individuals purporting to be members of the Hawks to store the stock pending further investigation. While officers were still on scene, a state vehicle (white Nissan NP300) arrived, driven by a male who identified himself as a Warrant Officer stationed at Langlaagte SAPS. He claimed he had given the instruction to the shop owner concerning the goods. He was accompanied by a female passenger.

Both individuals were immediately placed under arrest. The matter is under further investigation
