June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.
Today or this week, call a man in your life and ask:
"How are you really doing?"
Listen without judgement. Men need support too.

#DYK? - 🇺🇸 @CDCgov supports @MinofHealthUG to combat outbreaks with expert 🇺🇸 training teams. “Measles outbreaks often reveal deeper gaps—missed vaccinations or delayed detection. This training helps teams go beyond response to prevention.”— Dr. Yvette Wibabara, @CDC.gov Immunization Advisor.
AFENET, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Uganda and with support from the U.S. CDC, trained over 60 experts from 16 regions on measles outbreak response and root cause analysis (MORCA) from 22–24 April 2026 in Kampala, Uganda.
Uganda continues to report measles outbreaks across multiple districts, highlighting persistent gaps in population immunity and outbreak response.
Through this training, participants strengthened their ability not only to detect and respond to outbreaks, but to understand why they continue to occur, from missed vaccinations to gaps in surveillance and coordination. A key output of the training is the development of regional measles preparedness and response plans for each of the 16 regions represented.
“This is not just about responding to outbreaks, but preventing them from happening again,” emphasized Dr. Yvette Wibabara, Senior Public Health Specialist – Immunization, CDC Uganda.
As a training of trainers, these experts will take this knowledge back to their regions, supporting more targeted, evidence-based responses and stronger immunization outcomes across the country.
The training was officiated by Dr Michael Baganizi, Program Manager at the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunization (UNEPI), @MinofHealthUG.

🎓 Today, we proudly celebrate the graduation of 16 fellows of the 2nd cohort of the Growing Expertise in E-Health Knowledge and Skills (#GEEKS) Fellowship—a milestone in advancing digital health and immunization equity in Uganda. This dynamic group of fellows made remarkable strides, including the identification of over 91% of 251 zero-dose children through innovative data triangulation methods in Kakumiro district. They championed the adoption of WHO SMART guidelines, driving a digital transformation in healthcare planning and delivery. Setting the stage for long-term impact. #Data4Health #Immunization #DigitalHealthUG

.@MinofHealthUG’s EPI@50 celebration was an opportunity to both honour Uganda’s achievements and to forge an ambitious path for the future. I am confident that @Gavi's partnership with Uganda will continue to strengthen.
Today, Uganda marked 50 years of the Expanded Programme on Immunization with a high-level, pivotal meeting, joined by @gavi CEO Dr. @SaniaNishtar. For over four decades, @MinofHealthUG & partners have expanded access to routine immunization, saving millions of lives in #Uganda.

This is a significant step towards ensuring the sustainability and maintainability of digital solutions in Uganda and technologies built for health workers so they can be supported in providing care rather than burdened with data collection activities.
This week, the AFENET Secretariat welcomed a team from the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) for an inspection and supervision visit of the "Understanding School Health Service Provision in Uganda" project, a key component of the Life Course Vaccination Project. The @UNCST_Uganda, which plays a key role in coordinating and guiding national research and development (R&D) in Uganda, engaged in discussions focused on enhancing accountability, transparency, and the effective implementation of research studies and ethical policies. These discussions are essential to ensure that AFENET’s research projects adhere to the highest standards and proactively address any emerging issues.
In attendance were, from left to right: Dr. Nicholas Ayebazibwe and Dr. John Kamulegeya (AFENET), Samuel Barasa, Eve Namitala, and Richard Odoch (UNCST), Dr. Immaculate Ampeire (UNEPI), Dr. Irene Mwenyango (MoH), Dr. Yvette Wibabara (CDC), and Joseph Magoola (AFENET).
