mindshare changes pretty quickly between launchpads these days, so wanted to share my pov of why it happens.
just took the ones that i trade tokens from, smaller ones are not included. it's a pretty long read, so if you don't care about certain launchpad, skip the part about it.
i don’t have a favorite one and i don’t care about defending or fudding any. my belief is simple: it’s not about the launchpad, it’s about the token. some tickers or lores just fit a certain one better, like lets say $uranus on jup.
sometimes i’ll drop my thoughts on how to improve. sometimes it’s just feedback. and a couple crashouts.
1. @bonkfun
for almost a month, bonk was an obvious winner, even though still compared a lot to pump, which meant they still had a lot of improvements to do to be the golden standard and an actual long-term winner. the marketing and timing (pump ico, @a1lon9 going mia) made their position as number one very well deserved. but how did it return to tradition that quickly again?
on a high level, bonk didn’t bring much innovation to the table and didn’t fix the actual issues of trenches, like farms and snipers, etc. so their main edge was mostly marketing and a community oriented approach, which worked till the moment alon came back and literally injected more liquidity into top pf community tokens.
one of the core issues is that they put $useless as the only index for the whole eco. when it dipped a few %, the whole eco nuked and when it bounced, the eco followed. same goes for @theunipcs being the main character.
this “pump are only extracting” approach maybe worked in the short term, but at the end of the day, the point of every business is to profit, so no matter how much i wish pump put more back into the eco, they don’t owe anyone anything. especially when that will be the endgame for bonk too.
and diving deeper, this “we support communities” approach ended up just being tweets in most cases. it worked in the beginning and for short-term pumps, but after it became obvious there isn’t much more to it, the impact almost disappeared. note that i do not mean tweets are not effective. with most dumb trenchers mindsets that’s probably the main thing they are looking for. but that did not make bonk any different from pf too.
when it came to real support, the best announcement was bonk top pair buybacks. but here was the catch. while pushing the community narrative, the buybacks were for top mc, not communities, which obviously brought a lot of backlash from active communities. in the second round they cut useless, but still had stuff like $ani, which had no community but rather holders, as it is a very situational token dependent on elon interactions. that is where a true community showed real power. @WangChaidotbonk holders bombed @SolportTom and everyone involved so much that, in the end, they were added for buybacks the second time.
but the question remains: why mention communities nonstop when you didn’t acknowledge the biggest community in your eco as worthy of buyback? and it’s not subjective, it is literally the biggest x community out of all bonk eco tokens.
after that, no new buy backs have been announced.
and it’s still probably the most hard-working community i’ve seen. with leaders like @Silt73 and @0xAndy_eth constantly pushing the project, the way bonk never did. it was great seeing tom’s replies from time to time, but after two weeks of just replies and no action, everyone got annoyed. i’m sure #旺柴 deserves way higher no matter with or without bonk, and some action was only taken when the community started pointing it out to tom, so now you can see @iamkadense and @Branche_SC interacting and having calls with cto leads.
after the buybacks backlash, things started getting worse and worse, probably because tom felt like they won completely. the $ani personal buy announcement was probably the most fudded decision. i’m pretty sure almost every community was not happy and was confused. why the new situational token, fully dependent on elon interactions, instead of tons of other choices that chose bonk and not pf?
$boss was probably even worse. it’s okay to crime a coin to bring attention to you, but same, it could’ve been launched anywhere, and it was too obvious of a crime, when the meme isn’t even that fun and everyone had already forgotten about this ibiza guy.
the amount of original bonk tokens to choose from was insane, just to name a few:
$monkey, probably the smartest dog ever, viral af
$kori, literally the most viral dog for like a year already
$memecoin, do i even need to explain?
#旺柴, the first and only successful chinese ticker ever
$detective, if you want a situational one
each of them had crazy communities of bagworkers and good traders, like @_rudie_dz, @thisisdjen, @wishtrades100x, @OnlyLJC for just one monkey or @Ga__ke and @missoralways for wechat doge and memecoin
@SolportTom@iamkadense@Branche_SC would love to know your thoughts
2. @BagsApp
it's a pretty fresh approach to launchpads with its own unique twist, so makes no sense to mention direct competition with bonk/pump. i like the general idea behind it, but the way it is executed now needs a lot of improvement. for now it's too much extraction.
the hat stunt was pretty obvious, but still good for the mindshare. though, at the end, got everyone disappointed in the decision with fees and the 250k contest, but that's not something that can be fixed, so let's move on to real issues.
imo, having your main runner launched by the founder and being an actual beta of an og token is not the best shot in long term, but in the current state, there is no way for a real organic runner to break through.
any bags launch rn follows two pump and dump paths:
- pump speculation on if the creator will claim/interact, dump and die after that not happening
- pump after creator interacting, dump right after, cause they are here to take fees and not support the token
more mechanisms for claims should be added 100%. yeah we get it that fees are a reward to creators and they don't owe anyone anything, but if that was the case, just launch the donation app. if you want to focus on trenchers and trading, please make it less extractive for them.
another problem is creators claiming multiple tokens without purpose. example: @tetsuoai with 3 tokens for one account. one is completely dead, two still exist. if @groktprompt is a project with updates and actual use of a reward, what’s up with the latest one? why does @finnbags interact with it if that obviously creates uncertainty for traders, like which one will the creator support more?
add a limit of claims or make every token have a purpose. say we launch a token to support creators development funded by fees, so he can claim once he proves it or reaches some gradual milestones. less manipulation and less uncertainty for traders. that adds legitimacy to the launchpad. shows a win win: i bought the token, and even if the recipient does not interact, just “inject the fees back to the chart” or smth.
or have a look at $nyan 500k extraction.
the fun elements are understandable too ($ttf or @jynxbby) and should exist, but then you have creators like @createdbyseol with zero interaction, when he’s literally the proper case you want to have on the platform.
someone launched a token without him before, he got nothing. now there’s a chance to reward him, but yeah let's just interact with extractors.
also, more verification helps in cases like rizzler, where an account gets hacked and a pnd happens in a new way. if someone launches a pf token out of nowhere, we already know it’s a scam, whereas claiming fees isn’t that straightforward for traders to evaluate.
3. @jup_studio
i think it's the worst case, mainly because of poor management of @jup_studio. it's worse cause the team is not dumb, and @weremeow is a true builder, jupiter is probably the most used protocol on solana, so i just have tons of whys.
why did they even decide to launch studio if there is no vision behind it?
you open the studio webpage and clearly see that it's about experiments for creators with a couple of custom launch options. why not push this narrative? why would you just give up on that without even trying? there were a couple of experiments that received no support and after that they just decided "fuck it, trenches mode", but without any plan or even idea behind it.
the jup studio account is straight up bad. looks like a boomer trying gen z slang with all these "evil intern arc" cringe and so on. but i might be spending too much time on ct, so let's get to more facts:
- wtf was this $grit bullposting? couple milly mc with 200 holders? trying to push a bundled scam (not even showing on studio page tokens list rn)
- wtf with the shark emoji? literal fake of a token on pump
it only got better when meow got somehow involved, pushing $uranus. and uranus is a very smart bet. space related, funny, easy to bullpost. then there was even a cult attempt with $bubble, but radio silence again. one uranus won't save the failed launchpad.
if you keep the experiment/creators narrative on your main page, why the only live one, $j4j, launched on the first day receives literally 0 interactions? ran from 1k mc and still holding good, being pretty much the oldest token out of all visible rn, while also being the main slogan for jupiter eco. and @awesomesinyee also pushing the jupiter irl in general.
just study other successful launchpads, where those type of cult coins are appreciated. think of return to tradition on pump or anything bonk/tom related on bonk.
with such low market/mindshare you won't have situational runners, no matter how much you try to post a chair from all your accounts.
for now, there is nothing unique about jup studio, with only like 5 tokens alive, so make sure to at least support them.
never seen a reply to any of those whys, so any clarification is great: @bitcnoi, @9yointern, @kashdhanda, @wassielawyer
4. @moonshot
looks like they just gave up on their launchpad and the only token i still see on tl is @Goonshotonsol, but just saw they'll probably launch their own launchpad lul
5. @believeapp
not much to add on believe, since i haven’t followed the eco lately. not going to shit on them without facts. i personally lost faith a couple months ago.
and of course pump. most issues are general trenches problems, not pump specific. for now it still seems to be the golden standard, so let’s just see what's next.
---------
to be clear, this isn’t shilling my bags as i don’t even own some of the tokens mentioned. this is what i see on my tl. your view might be different. i tried to add facts where i could and appreciate any help with adding them or proving me wrong.
I once was charged way more than I should have. And it was not shown in the transaction, I just had a feeling that I should have more money on my kast balance.
Messaged support and they just started saying that because of the merchant I was double charged for some amount and they refunded me. After I said it’s still not enough, they did one more refund. Tldr they did 3 refunds on one transaction and blamed the merchant. Can’t even apologize for their own mistakes.
Second time it happened they just randomly deducted my balance and told me it’s cause one time they mistakenly did an additional refund.
Support is useless and I’m not using kast anymore since I don’t want to remember my own balance just to not lose money
This is the story of Hyperliquid, the most profitable startup per employee on earth, told from a guarded office in Singapore.
Last year, its team of 11 generated $900 million in profit. It's 3 years old, has never taken a dollar of venture capital, and is beginning to change how century-old markets work.
Its founder, Jeffrey Yan (@chameleon_jeff), had never taken a physics class when he picked up a textbook at 16. Two years later, he won gold at the International Physics Olympiad. In 2019, he started trading with $10,000 from a living room in Puerto Rico—working off a television because he didn't own a monitor.
Within 3 years, he was running one of the largest anonymous crypto trading firms.
Then he shut it down. Yan was rich and free, but he had spent years inside crypto, watching it betray itself. Bitcoin's central premise was decentralization. Yet the biggest exchanges were centralized. Crypto kept reintroducing the dependence on trust it was built to eliminate. He set out to create what should have existed.
Hyperliquid is a blockchain with a trading exchange on top, and anyone can build on it. Yan's vision is to house all of finance. In 3 years, it has done over $4 trillion in volume. And in the past few months, it has begun to outgrow crypto.
Markets for oil, silver, and the S&P 500 now trade on Hyperliquid around the clock, weekends included, and are growing roughly 40% week on week. When the US and Israel bombed Iran on a Saturday in February, Hyperliquid was the venue traders turned to.
Hyperliquid's success has cost Yan his freedom. He works out of a secret office in Singapore and cannot travel without two bodyguards. Even the team's housekeeper doesn't know what they do.
In January, @domcooke spent a week at their office. Read his profile on Yan and @HyperliquidX below.
I spent 5 months banging my head against the wall pitching VCs for them to usually just reject my product outright due to the live token.
Fast forward, and we've raised $6M across 2 rounds in the span of 12 days from some of the most powerful VCs in the industry.
A live token should not stop you. If your product is good, the necessary venture capital is not off the table. A lot of VCs don't understand this yet, but I believe that with @pumpcade we will rewrite the playbook on this.
Launching $PUMPCADE allowed me to quit my job and bootstrap the first 6 months of my company. The community backed me and allowed me to build an MVP and get instant feedback on every feature I released.
We're in the big leagues now. We are well capitalized and are setting ourselves up to deliver an experience unlike anything you've seen before.
The fastest prediction markets. Any verifiable source. Resolved Instantly.
Extremely grateful for our investors (@foundationcap@jump_@pumpfun@radiosolace), our community of token holders, my team (@steoniy@gnarzilla), and a final extra shoutout to Pump Fun again for making this possible and supporting builders.
Anyways, Pumpcade.
Okay so an update.
I got there and there’s private security. They took a whole video of me, my car registration. They let me take some pictures and a video but the security didn’t want to be in the video.
