On January 6, he was assaulted by rioters—dragged down the Capitol steps, beaten with pipes, tased, sprayed with chemical irritants, and threatened with his own gun amid relentless verbal abuse. Fanone suffered burns, a heart attack, a concussion, a traumatic brain injury, and was later diagnosed with PTSD.

The man he’s confronting is Ivan Raiklin, a far-right political operative and election denier who has spent years advocating for the overthrow of the Constitution.

All things considered, Michael Fanone shows far more restraint and courage than most people could reasonably be expected to muster in his position.

NEW: The DOJ has filed a motion to block the appointment of an independent monitor to release the Epstein files in the Ghislaine Maxwell case.

The DOJ argues that federal courts lack the authority to enforce the Epstein Transparency Act and that Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie don’t have standing to recommend an independent monitor.

In short, it appears the DOJ’s position is that no court can force them to produce the files.
