one way people seem to get screwed with new jobs
they get hired to work on one thing, with a huge vesting cliff, and then they get moved to a different team unwillingly working on dogshit that sucks, but have to stick it out for the rest of the first year
The main goal of Bayesian ML research is to show that all methods which have previously been shown to work well in practice are somehow approximately Bayesian
@raulizahi@bubbleboi@alan_shore12 Don't know about the US but AWS India takes the cake for one of the most toxic places you can be at, and they're competing with Indian companies which is saying something.
@waltjsmith@nic_carter@bryan_johnson The relevant gist of that movie is the guy's in love with the version of Summer that's in his head rather than her actual self.
@nicksummy@vxunderground Poor decision making under reduced executive function from lack of sleep gets you or others killed in any of the fields you mentioned.

@giffmana It works in the moment (sometimes), but later on if you're forced to read the code and modify it by hand you cringe at all the `except Exception as e: pass` blocks and other such nonsensical constructs it added.
If somebody doesn't have their own boundaries they'll never respect yours. Tangentially, founding engineer in itself is a bizarre concept, the role is essentially all of the work and risk for 1-2% of the potential upside.
@huhuhaha2_0@TheWand68425335 Do you write an apology letter and are you publicly shamed for leaving your job? Because that's exactly what happens at a "black" company in Japan.
We do have it easier than them and that's a good thing.
@giffmana It looks like they used an LLM on the patch notes, both these inaccuracies are pretty common at least in the GPT family - calling dated theory SOTA and cool sounding fabricated acronym expansions.
@Ar_Douillard The job market in India is different from yours. Deep tech is niche and fails to attract the kind of funding it requires. Labs like DM rely very heavily on pedigree because otherwise it's very low SNR. Immigration rules everywhere have been hardened. QT advice is very practical.
