Announcing AlphaFold 3: our state-of-the-art AI model for predicting the structure and interactions of all life’s molecules. 🧬
Here’s how we built it with @IsomorphicLabs and what it means for biology. 🧵 https://t.co/gjw6Ip4F2M
We determined the structures of human UCP1 in apo, ATP-bound, and DNP-bound states. (https://t.co/D5BavNmElI) Congratulations to Yunlu on another two-author paper!
@JohannaMellis@AcademicChatter like I don't have much of a choice. My SLAC opened up my life but it's demoralizing to realize that after 10+ years of training as a professional scientist, I would make less as a professor there than I do currently as a high school tutor.
@JohannaMellis@AcademicChatter family are always shocked to hear how little TT faculty at non-R1 schools actually make, especially knowing how many years of training and work are required for getting the position (and the price of tuition!). I don't really want to leave academia, but I honestly feel
@gramnegativity Could you stick them in the incubator for the night? This is what I usually do to dry my plates (and also tells you if any contamination crept in during pouring)
Our new work describing a “non-canonical” TCA cycle that is engaged in a cell-state dependent manner is out today in @Nature https://t.co/BqaDhp9YRO. Congratulations to lead authors @paigearnold2@__btjackson@GSKGradSchool@MSKCancerCenter. A few highlights:
@bakermind@sciliz@sebatlab I've heard this a lot and I'm not sure I agree with it. Maybe I am biased by being surrounded by smart people all day, but I really don't think what I do is all that complex, and requires a huge amount of training. It just takes better teaching than most people ever really get.
Excited to share another collaborative effort with the Huang lab at @WeillCornell. Outstanding work by Shian and @labnavid reveal how LPA and S1P receptors discriminate between similar lipids. Congratulations to everyone! https://t.co/FImxTv35Mi
@erin_allwein Pigeons - only once, and it wasn't their fault.
Rats - every single time I walk out of my apartment building. They're monsters. I've seen rats here that are bigger than dogs.
Perhaps New York City's most iconic bird. I think these birds are way more than just "rats with wings" and as I've learned recently, have played a big part in our scientific understanding of metabolism!
THREAD: As #Omicron surges and our systems strain, I wanted to share my #COVID19 experience in NYC last month. It was actually a hopeful window into what a society where we look out for one another and a government that is set up to truly care for us could look like.
My first work during graduate school at @WeillCornellGS! Proud to have played a small part in this incredible effort with our collaborators. More to come in the future from the @HiteLabMSKCC.
An IMPORTant (sorry, I had to) paper in @nature from the @KivancBirsoy lab identifying SLC25A39 as necessary for mitochondrial glutathione import. Congrats to the team and all their hard work!
