Tom Holland’s go-to workout for preparing for Spider-Man is the “Cindy” benchmark, a high-intensity routine where you complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes. Each round includes 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats.
Holland’s personal best is an impressive 27 rounds, meaning he completed 135 pull-ups, 270 push-ups, and 405 squats in just 20 minutes.
I changed my mind on minimum wage after reviewing the data. I used to believe in letting the free market handle it, like most of you.
However, when California raised the minimum wage for fast-food workers, it increased prices for consumers by pennies (~1-2%).
There was zero downside... it didn't drive massive automation, nor did it cause businesses to shutter.
Exactly the same result as Australia and other American cities... no changes in jobs; restaurants didn't close.
We are at record profits for corporations.
We are at a record low in unemployment in America over the past five years.
We are at maximum social unrest due to wealth disparity.
We should WANT to see the lowest-earning Americans go from $12 to $15, to $20, and then to $25 an hour over the next decade.
This isn't virtue signaling; this is good business!
Why?
Individuals earning under $40,000 a year spend 100% of their income.
They save nothing... they just spend it at the same companies they earn it at (Amazon, McDonald's, the Apple Store, DoorDash, Uber, etc).
It increases monetary velocity.
Take the time to research all of this, and you'll find the only downside is for teenage workers, who aren't worth $15-20 an hour. It does depress those jobs, so we should keep teenagers at a lower rate.
Economist @MazzucatoM: "My book the Entrepreneurial State is an open call to change the way we talk about the State, its role in the economy and the images and ideas we use to describe that role. Only then can we begin to build the kind of society we want to live in, and want our children to live in, in a manner that pushes aside false myths about the State and recognizes how it can, when mission driven and organized in a dynamic way, solve problems as complex as putting a man on the moon and solving climate change. And we need the courage to insist— through both vision and specific policy instruments— that the growth that ensues from the underlying investments be not only ‘smart’, but also ‘inclusive’."

Cory Doctorow, renowned science fiction writer, explains how this isn’t the result of great historical forces or iron laws of economics. It is driven by economic policies of deregulation, weakened labor power, and unchecked corporate monopolies. Credit: @bioneers

I love the World Cup. But the older I get, the more I realise it's about far more than football: each tournament tells us something about empire, migration, identity, power and the changing world. So: a few quick thoughts ! 1/5
Supercharged Heat Domes are appearing all around the Planet! Why? It’s a developing super El Niño combined with a much warmer Earth, spiking natural cycles with extra heat injected into the system and pattern changes augmenting the jet stream. The US will endure one of its most expansive heatwaves in history this week. Then another long lasting record breaking heat dome will plague #Europe again, back to back on its worst #heatwave in its history! With #elnino on top of a heated globe, expect the unexpected this year!!
Is the UK worse off because of Brexit? Ten years on since the Brexit referendum, we've looked at this question in detail. The video is produced by Katerina Karelli - and it's longer than our usual explainers. I hope you find it helpful.
