hey remember when you idiots kept using a quote of Mamdani saying he would arrest Netanyahu as proof of his commitment to Palestine (even tho he walked it back shortly after).....anyways Smotrich just marched through NY untouched
I’ve been banned from the UK. I tried to get on a flight to London to attend SXSW London and give a speech at Oxford. I’ve been banned for criticizing Israel. Are we free anymore? This is oppression of Western citizens by our own governments on behalf of a different country!
i’m obsessed with the asian man who rides my bus and talks to himself. today after a year of riding the same bus we finally spoke and he asked me “how much do you pay in rent?” i told him…he goes “i would never pay that much” he’s about to get off at his stop. i say “have a good
The self-victimization combined with the unwillingness to address real facts of what is happening on the ground makes this such a perverse way of propagandeering.
Israel did not make Eurovision political. The boycott campaign against it did.
Israel did not make believing rape survivors political. The people who mocked Hamas victims did.
Israel did not make Hebrew, the Jewish language, political. Authors who refuse to translate their books for Israelis did.
Israel did not make Jewish safety in the diaspora political. Politicians who ignore violent hate against Jews when it disguises itself as ‘criticism of Israel’ did.
Israel did not make freeing civilian hostages political. The terrorists who took those hostages, and the world that ripped down their posters, did.
Israel did not make the word genocide political. The people who insisted, long before October 7th, that Israel’s existence constitutes genocide, did.
Jews exist. Israel does too, and half of us live there.
And we are going to keep existing. You can make it “political,” or you can learn to accept we are human beings.
Those sadistic soldiers did this to the best of us. Jesse has always been such a steadfast voice for justice and liberation. We cannot be silent about the injustices and destructiveness of the Israeli state.
Dutch activist Jesse Aletta van Schaik, who was onboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, says Israel ILLEGALLY KIDNAPPED her and hundreds of others.
“They took off my shirt. Took pictures. Mistreated us all night long.”
“Handcuffs on my hands and feet. They DRAGGED me on the ground when I couldn’t walk.”
“They HIT us. Hurt all of us. The handcuffs were so tight my hands lost feeling.”
“They are SUPER SADISTIC.”
“Shame on every government that keeps trading with Israel. Europe is COMPLICIT. The whole world is COMPLICIT.”
There are people behind their screens who see these rescue workers tending to a girl and her father, and they press a button and end their lives, then go get lunch as if they are not monsters who should be in prison for life
@T1DME You want them to get people mobilized and organized on a large scale. That's what you just said. My point is ask them to share meaningful projects and communities, propose to share your work with them on stream. Many just want to lay back and complain they're not not catered to.
@T1DME Streamers aren't organizers. Their position is in essence tactical. It's up to organizations and organizers to engage and leverage the field of crop that is becoming ripe for the picking. Engage with the audiences invite them to participate locally, regionally and nationally.
@m_i_c_h_i_c@DecolonialMarx@FoxyMarxist They want to think that they can GoFundMe and Chuffed themselves into a better world without understanding the brutal ways that power dynamics impact and inhibit or facilitate their work.
@T1DME The power and currency of a streamer/public advocate is their platform. That's how they're able to shape and convince people that have political power to listen to their ideas. You want them to not use their power to do this and thereby become ineffective. Useless ego exercise.
Useless exercises in moral grandstanding on the left by people that exist in totally different environments than they're in. Of course if you're from a place where everyone is cognizant of certain issues it will seem like madness that people platform those who don't fully agree.
The purpose for discourse is about steering conversations into the direction that mainstreams pro-justice narratives and make that ultimately the norm. Only preaching to the choir of people who already agree with your point serves only ego.
"...it degrades to the position of an apologist for facts."
You don't say "whelp, that's how the system is", that sort of common nonsense, which is most of the time said out of isolation; as if putting your head in the sand will protect you from truck headed right our way!
Everyone needs to start actually working and organizing and building instead of this perma-purity testing bullshit that accomplishes nothing but the ruin of the very platforms we need. They wanna bring Hasan down for what purpose? Who's there to fill the vacuum?
