#RNA and structural biology communities lost a #Yale legend with the Oct. 9, '18 passing of Thomas Steitz. Tom and colleagues made major breakthroughs on the structures/mechanisms of important RNAs and proteins, including the #ribosome, which was honored with a 2009 #NobelPrize.
Let's all say it together for emphasis: The main purpose of science PhD programs is not to produce more professors.
PhD programs should exist to equip students with the skills and experience they need to go out into the world and leverage science for positive impact. #PhDchat
