Antibiotic resistance genes have been a core tool in synthetic biology since the start. In our new preprint by @biotaxis, we develop tools that will enable control over bacterial survival in space and time using light. 🦠💡

Minipreps! They're a fact of life. But if they don't bring you joy, you might want to try new tactics or treat yourself to some fun new toys!
Our lab has done 2,625 minipreps so far. Let me share a few tidbits about our approach and our favorite pieces of equipment. 🧵 (1/n)
On Thursday we had the pleasure of hosting the Tyngsboro High School's BioBuilderClub Team at our Learning Lab! While here, they performed a bacterial transformation with the DNA plasmid they designed. Great work from these amazing students! #tpsprepares#biobuilder
Our latest paper is out! Light-inducible expression of antibiotic resistance genes. Led by @biotaxis, with help from @NathanTague2. Constructs are on @Addgene if you want to try them out.
And to wrap up today's paperfest, @biotaxis and co in the @DunlopLab at @BostonU_BME present an optogenetic toolkit for light induced antibiotic resistance

Delighted to share our latest paper on the RENDR platform — an engineered ribozyme that can convert RNA signals into orthogonal protein outputs. Published in @NatureComms and led by @laurgamb, @AOStaubus, @Kimwai_Mo, and @andrea_faint. Supported by @NSF

Super excited that our paper with @ajofranklinlab, i.e., CAF, is out (https://t.co/QOFzt1IFG6) with @meeeeechigan, @su2lin_SEU, Xu Zhang, and George Bennett. Congrats to all!!!
Very excited to share our new preprint where we use a deep learning-based feedback algorithm to control gene expression in real time in thousands of single E. coli cells in parallel. This work was led by @jblugagne and @cblassick. 1/
I learned so much through making these slides, and I hope they'll help you learn (and teach) too! Very excited to share a new course module that covers the theory, core tools, and impacts of engineering/synthetic biology: https://t.co/zYDzD2lkqB
Looking to teach #engineeringbiology in your course? EBRC is excited to announce a new resource! Our modular slide deck on the impacts and principles of Engineering Biology, by Michael Sheets @biotaxis and Josh Atkinson @meeeeechigan: https://t.co/bYhy7Pbt57
Here's our new article -- potentially, everything you ever wanted to know about light-regulated gene expression in bacteria (& much more).

Welcome opportunity to team up once again with @RobertOhlendorf (this guy knows stuff!). Enjoy
What if you could image 🔬cells and then choose which ones to sequence 🧬?
What if you could go back and image 🔬cells that you previously sequenced 🧬?
Now you can 🔬 then 🧬 then 🔬 cells again with Light-Seq!

Let’s dig in 🧵.
Genome sequencing of the evolved populations revealed why resistance accelerated in MS but not in SS: mildly-selected resistance mutations were stably maintained without selection, contrarily to strongly-selected mutants that were unstable in drug-free environments.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court just reversed nearly 50 years of precedent and overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the federal constitutional right to abortion.
We won't deny what a horrible moment this is.
Half of the states are expected to ban abortion.
