@Riggwelter_PSSD@PieAreSqwared I was in my early twenties when I was given Citalopram. I became quickly bedridden on the drug with physical symptoms and then continued to be bedridden with new onset neurological symptoms after tapering. I worked 8-18 hours shifts 6 days per week prior to the drug.
@the1tigirius@hubermanlab@DrMEisenberg@StanfordMed SSRIs are more than serotonin, they act on allopregnanolone and sex hormones before their serotonin effects kick in. Maybe have a look in that direction if the Citalopram is helping. Palmitoylethanolamide for allo. Run a full hormone panel.
@DrMcFillin 6. They are neuro-protective and heal your brain
This has not been my experience and needs to be spoken about more. The effects on neurosteroids occur at concentrations way below their threshold for action on serotonin, yet prescribers do not talk about this.
@RLewisTherapy I tweeted @ProfRobHoward a few days ago asking if he would take me on as a patient after developing dementia from an SSRI. Was not aware his treatment for dementia *is* #SSRIs! These drugs are not benign and significantly alter neurosteroids. I rarely recognise my family anymore.
@rcpsych@AlanCarson15@Veronicabreira#SSRIs gave me #POTS so severely that I became bedridden and had to be spoon-fed at times as I could not lift head up. When I brought this up with the GP who prescribed the medication, I was told this was just anxiety. #POTS resolved upon withdrawal but now suffer from #PSSD.
@jonathanstea Hi Dr. Could you explain why the term 'chemical castration' is a fear-mongering psy-op when it concerns the average patient, but not when UK government specifically uses SSRIs to permanently & successfully chemically castrate their convicted sex offenders?

@PSSDSimon @rcpsych@EMA_News@BBCPanorama @DrAnnaSri - this public behaviour towards a patient is worrying, questionable & unprofessional. Familiarise yourself with the diagnostic criteria of Simon's condition (#PSSD) and consider sufferers devastated by post-drug syndromes in your practice.

@seyedsikorskyq@ROSIE_PSSD I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's worrying that even with the diagnostic criteria for #PSSD officially published, practitioners of medicine continue to gaslight these post-drug syndromes and damage.
@winner_nkem@KennethMPeters1@BeaumontUrology Hi God. Have been raw carnivore for a few years now. Whilst I have made gains in other areas of my health and plan to continue indefinitely, unfortunately does not improve #PSSD Sx. Deviating can make things worse though of course.
@ProfRobHoward@IriaRodrguez I'll be your first #PSSD patient if you'd like? I'm also under a neurologist for dementia caused by #citalopram - right up your street. Haven't recognised my family since withdrawal years ago and require full time care. Was never like this before the drug.
...spade's a spade
"In the 1980s, an additional class of pharmaceuticals for reducing recidivism in sex offenders became available: the #SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)."

Describing antidepressants as “chemical castration” is fear-mongering rhetoric designed to stigmatize psychiatric medications and deter treatment seeking.
For those unfamiliar, the website “Mad in America” is a vehicle for anti-psychiatry propaganda.
@jenkins_donut@sulmoney A lot of the effects of #PSSD are insidious and the Sx not outright obvious or immediately attributable. Personally it took years of going through neurological testing and an unfortunate reinstatement episode before I realised why my entire body was numb from #citalopram
@wdpsychiatry Great point re: alerting loved ones or someone who lives in close proximity to you.
Since #PSSD I no longer emotionally recognise my family. On the rare occasion I get to dream, I have nightmares of not caring at all when someone close to me dies. Because it would be true.
@drjanaway@PSSDNetwork@joannamoncrieff SSRIs are LITERALLY used by the UK government to successfully mentally & physically chemically castrate convicted sex offenders. Why is the castration induced by these drugs considered objective when it's a paedo, but not where #PSSD patients are concerned?
