Miners require nodes to replicate their blocks. Miners compete with other miners. When 2 miners solve a block at about the same time, they both put out their solutions into the blockchain. Whichever solution gets replicated the fastest forms the longest chain and wins.

Nodes need a lot of storage. It would be very expensive to spin up thousands of nodes. Economically prohibitive.

Nash would probably not be in favor of centralized layer 2’s or Bitcoin banks that fractional reserves its customers deposits.

It degrades TU or completely erases it.

It’s exactly like fiat, it works good during good times, but during not ideal times, it degrades. Good money is supposed to be good all the time, not just when the economy is doing well.

Centralized LN, which is exactly the plan to scale bitcoin, spoke and hub LN(centralized) and Bitcoin Banks(centralized) takes the TU out of Bitcoin and degrades it to a NTU for 99% of the users. As most will be on layer 2’s or custodial “banks”

Of another party can cause loss of funds, freeze, or stop your from transferring your funds, you are not sovereign and you don’t have TU, or you only have it as long as the custodian allows it, the second they don’t, you have NTU, aka bad money.

This is why it’s important to discuss the saving in txn fees by increasing the blocksize/weight, as it allows for more players to gain TU in their money/savings, and the savings on txns might very well outpace the added storage cost to your node. Even tho you don’t need a node for TU, just a wallet and UTXO’s.

All it does is make plebs feel like they “sent a message” and nothing more. You can change cores default op return back to whatever value you want, that’s how relay policy works. One single command in CLI and you can revert a core node op return to 40 or 0 or 21 or 83 bytes or whatever you want, as long as it’s within consensus it’s valid. If the fee is sufficient for the size it will be mined.

The BiP110 seeks to take freedom of choice away from every single node and miner to change op return limit, because the default core sets is just that, a default that is allowable and easy to change and the txns you make are still valid. It seeks to give this freedom of choice to one man, Luke instead of allowing every sovereign node and miner to set their own, core sets nothing but the default that you can change, but if BiP110 is successful that won’t be true anymore, meaning freedom is lessened for nodes and miners.

To the miners, you are sovereign, do what’s best for you! Greed is what makes Bitcoin and PoW.. work! Nodes are the same, we are all sovereign and get to decide what is in our own best interest. Bitcoin was designed so that everyone ends up doing “the same” Strategy and deviation is loss of profit, because of the incentives and how they are set up.

It is the single handed worst precedent we could ever set in Bitcoin to date. Please stop being dumb, for the sake for the future and the ability for each sovereign user to set their own relay policy. Stripping freedom of choice from nodes to change core default settings is.. plain retarded and why so many are pointing out so many of yall don’t understand the difference between relay policy each node and miner get to change core default values like op return size, it takes one single line in the CLI to revert your node back to 83 op return or whatever you want, but consensus is where you cannot change the values or it makes the txn or block invalid.
