Crypto wasn’t invented for the age we came from.
When Satoshi launched Bitcoin, we thought we were building a hedge against banks. Digital gold, permissionless money for humans who couldn't access banks.
All true. But the humans found it hard. Keys, custody, UX... none of it felt natural.
Turns out we were building the base layer for something else entirely.
Agents don't struggle with keys, and smart contracts are native to machines. Every UX problem we've spent years trying to solve was a problem because the users hadn't arrived yet.
Now they have. The agentic economy needs money that moves at its speed, and crypto is the only system that does.
Had the greatest time sitting down with @ErikVoorhees a few weeks ago to dig into where crypto fits in the agentic world. As ever, please enjoy!
@IterIntellectus Should absolutely not be controversial. The human ego is so large. If the message is the same who tf cares who or what wrote it. I agree, calculator math should not be acceptable then.
I think this is the right way to approach. People will need money to spend, an economy needs capital moving and needs consumers to consume. If people can’t earn money to spend we need to get it somehow in order for there to be an economy. UHI checks give economic lubricant to the masses to allocate where they want to instead of need to. This will make things much more efficient as the basics necessities should be the first to be democratized by the ultra AI efficiency. All this talk about “what will we do to find meaning” is crazy to me because humans can’t find meaning outside of job labor. Pursuing passions in an environment like that will unlock humanity’s sense of purpose more than the current work and study until you die model.
Web 1.0 built the canvas (web infra).
Web 2.0 captured the nutrients (human data).
Web 3.0 funded the compute (mining bubble).
Web 4.0 is growing AI on the above joint substrate.
In retrospect, every stage was simply preparing the ground for explosive growth of AGI.
Ben Horowitz: Computing has always needed two pillars, machines and networks. AI has the machines but not the network.
Crypto is the missing layer, giving AI money, identity, provenance against deepfakes.

@bowtiedmeathead Bodybuilding is overrated anyways. Way cooler to be yolked and strong. Hypertrophy isn’t everything, look at any pro athlete. team sports even strength sport etc, and none of them look like bodybuilders (for a reason)
Yeah, just like all the sites of of the early internet. Building out global civilizationally entrenched things isn’t a straight line of development. People need to build a first wave of things, the experimental phase, before the ecosystem matures and paves the way for the future. We will see many things die out from the experimental phase of crypto. What comes after will evolve like social media did and become the backbone of the digital world. Lessons need to be learned, people need to gain experience, etc.
@0xNairolf Close but that’s only the halfway point. Think bigger. Think skynet. Crypto is in its experimental phase, all will come together as the backbone of the decentralized autonomous superintelligence. Always on, always observing, always improving.
It is important to pay attention to this and begin to think through the quite literally world changing implications. Regardless of how long it takes to entrench across the globe, it will. This is on the highest order of fundamental technological innovation.
@MichaelAArouet Bitcoin is a store of value for the on chain economy, not the “physical economy”. Gold fills that role for now but gold isn’t a store of value for the on chain economy. You can’t run the Bitcoin network on gold.
