Palestine Action protesters confront UK foreign secretary over Gaza

Pro-Palestine protesters confronted UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband at a restaurant in Liverpool on Sunday, urging him to lift the ban on Palestine Action and recognize Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide, as police arrested demonstrators outside the Labour Party's annual conference.

Around 200 protesters staged a sit-in outside the conference venue, with activists telling Miliband, "We would like you to deproscribe Palestine Action. We'd like you to declare genocide in Gaza."

Another protester urged him to speak to demonstrators as they were being arrested, saying they were being detained for peaceful protest. Merseyside Police said more than 50 people had been arrested for allegedly carrying material supporting a proscribed organization.

The UK banned Palestine Action in July 2025 after activists entered RAF Brize Norton, sprayed red paint on military aircraft and placed Palestinian flags on them. Demonstrations against the ban have continued, with protesters deliberately displaying signs supporting the group despite the risk of arrest and a prison sentence of up to 14 years.

In February, the High Court ruled that the government's decision to proscribe Palestine Action was disproportionate and unlawfully interfered with freedom of expression and assembly, although the ban remained in force during the legal proceedings.

Massive Attack member Robert Del Naja was also arrested in Liverpool on Saturday while holding a sign supporting Palestine Action, according to protest organizers.

🚨The Collapse of 'Stage-Managed Journalism': From Hasina's Bangladesh to Modi's India

ANALYSIS:

The era of stage-managed journalism, propped up by intoxicated rulers, is over.

In Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina's long reign institutionalized a model of sycophantic press. Newspapers and TV channels kept writing and broadcasting feel-good stories, miles away from reality, until everything burned to the ground — including the very institutions of that stage-managed journalism.

The Modi government in India built its media empire on the exact same blueprint. By handing tycoons lucrative deals, it turned them into owners of massive media houses. Public interest was replaced by a singular editorial policy: glorifying the BJP's rule and pushing the Hindutva agenda.

The result is the rise of social media cockroaches. They first went after the Education Minister, and are now hounding the Chief Election Commissioner.

Amid this, two disturbing incidents have emerged from Punjab's private universities — Lovely Professional University (#LPU) and #Chitkara University — involving alleged rapes of female students. The full truth is yet to come out.

But instead of transparency, the university administrations weaponized that same stage-managed journalism to bury the stories. A few hired guns in the press were used to circulate videos of the girls and issue statements that no such incident occurred.

What followed was inevitable: riots erupted.

At LPU, whether it was a model aircraft, a military tank, or police vehicles — everything was set on fire. Hostels were shut down, students were expelled. Nothing seems to calm the situation. This is Indian Punjab.

🚨Consider this:
If the local police and university administration had themselves brought the facts forward, if there had been strict rule of law, arrests of the accused, and if students had faith in speedy and transparent justice — would there have been violence? Believe me, it would never have come to this.

Why can't powerful governments, institutions, and elites understand this simple truth?

The age of stage-managed journalism and stage-managed politics is over. Fake narratives will no longer work. Only high-level governance and indiscriminate social justice can strengthen the bond between a state and its people.

You can keep putting your touts in front, paying them pennies while you pocket the dollars, and run the show for as long as it lasts. But not for much longer.
