California Blackout Risks Intensify Amid Soaring Temperatures, Wildfires
Grid officials warn the state faces a power deficit Monday as a historic heat wave continues, while thousands have fled their homes to escape spreading wildfires. https://t.co/BIIxmoS7j3
On other side of the world - California is suffering from endless wildfires, and an extreme heat wave overstressing the grid leading to blackout of the worlds 5th largest economy
California on Monday faced its greatest risk of blackouts so far this summer, officials said, as soaring temperatures stressed the power grid and rapidly spreading wildfires killed two over the weekend https://t.co/JDowjkpLqa
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is visiting flood-ravaged Pakistan, says he has โnever seen climate carnageโ on such a scale, blaming wealthier countries for contributing to the devastation โคต๏ธ

Two sets of modeling to be done for EVERY part of the world
1. Very active monitoring of rivers, lakes, glaciers to do early warnings
2. Random flooding/ rainfall/ inundation scenarios on computer and publishing outcomes for various stakeholders
Could we have done better job managing 600,000 displaced people, helping them / supporting them; we hope using better data, for sure.
But we need to find data/ intelligence/ give adequate coverage
Climate change is the only global problem which doesnโt see money in your bank account, color of your skin, your education level, or any aspect.
It impacts and WILL impact everyone equally.
The global south will not survive this century without climate justice. You in the west are talking about paper straws, we in the global south are talking about reparations. My latest for @guardian: https://t.co/vChg9eN1X3
Pakistan emits less than 1% of global GHG emissions. We need to provide flood modeling, prediction, inundation levels data to relevant agencies/ orgs in Pakistan & globally ASAP for atleast some mitigation, adaptation, and disaster management
I have never seen climate carnage on the scale of the floods here in Pakistan.
As our planet continues to warm, all countries will increasingly suffer losses and damage from climate beyond their capacity to adapt.
This is a global crisis. It demands a global response.
@LeoHickman@hausfath I always find it sobering that CO2 has increased by 100 ppm since I was born. Frightening. And apparently the government want to frack and drill more. Lots of talk of net zero by 2050 but they seem to forget we need to half emissions in the next decade to keep below 1.5ยฐc
@hausfath This chart by @OurWorldInData using @gcarbonproject data starkly shows the sharp rise in global emissions since the early 1950s

It is truly sobering to think that the world has heated by...
a full 1C
...since the Queen came to the thrown in 1953
Global CO2 emissions:
1953 - 6.6bn tonnes
2021 - 36.4bn tonnes
