How ironic to see a bunch of Europeans firmly opposed to capitalist infiltration and potential takeover by American capitalists.

If only such outcry and resistance was accorded to capitalist takeover of resources in subsaharan African countries. If only said countries were functional enough to control their own resources.

In reality football has been bought and controlled by big money for sometime now. Just look at the ownership and investors in top clubs in Europe, the salaries and transfer fees involved, the TV and advertisement deals, the world cup bidding process and ticket prices etc.

This appears to be a case of some capitalists in England, France, Germany etc. being unhappy that they are not primary orchestrators or beneficiaries of the deal proposed by Infantino and his friends.

Therefore the real story here is of a political tussle between certain European leaders and Infantino, and how they are angry that they have been sidelined, not the platitudes about "football not being for sale", or "belonging to the fans".

I actually don't believe altruism of elites is the driving force. I think it is competition and wanting to be the best you can possibly be as a society, amidst fierce competition from other societies.

Isn't it the same elites that must send their kids to other societies to get educated? Or isn't it the same elites that must fly out to other societies for healthcare? Isn't it the same elites that must import most of their fancy technological needs from other societies, with hardly any local technical know-how?

The issue is that the elites don't see themselves as inferior local champions, when in reality they are inferior in almost every sense of the word, compared with true global elites.

However I agree that the existential focus of the middle class and the general inability to envision or plan for a tomorrow where future generations are better equipped to compete globally is a real issue.

FG Budgets N22.15B To Build Palaces

Nigerians are reacting with outrage after the public accountability organisation Tracka revealed that the 2026 Proposed Budget set aside N22.15 billion for the construction of 106 royal palaces across the country.

The organisation found that billions of naira meant for traditional palaces appeared to be routed through unrelated agencies including the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and even the National Institute for Cancer Research.

I was fortunate to have seen prime Lionel Messi play. A lot of his prime coincided with my days in graduate school. I was an avid fan of the great tiki-taka Barcelona style of playing. I hardly missed any of their games in la liga, copa del rey or champions league.

By the early 2010s, I was already convinced that Messi is the greatest player to ever play the game. My judgement was based purely on what he had done on the football pitch as an individual.

Of course football is a team sport, and there are several other yardsticks by which greatness can be measured. However it amazed me that many observers, for a myriad of real or fabricated reasons doubted him.

For all his recent success with Argentina, this is a man that lost two Copa America finals on penalties to Chile and one world cup final in the 113th minute of extra time to Germany.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Messi bouncing back so late in his career to win the most important trophies for his national team, nevermind playing at such a high level in the world cup at the age of 39.

For me these are all cherries on top of the cake of arguably the best scorer, dribbler, playmaker, passer, assists creator the game has ever seen.

A true testament to the philosophy of never giving up in anything that you do. Regardless of how good or not good you are, there will be doubters and detractors. Follow your passion and never derive your main source of joy from external validation.

No matter the outcome of today's game. Messi for me remains the greatest. From any objective standpoint, there is no question that he lives in the same stratosphere (if not higher) with the likes of Pele and Maradona.

I try not to post too much about football/world cup as I did in early social media days on fb.

However that was a master class from Spain. Most people and media outlets focused on French fierce top 4, with little acknowledgment that France are a top heavy team and also that they had not faced a great team or any adversity prior to today.

Just as Psg recently showed at top level European football, collective football outshines top heavy approaches. Recall how Messi-Neymar-Mbappe were unable to power Psg to champions league glory.

So many other talking points on and off the field from what has been an amazing tournament.

I expect to see England in the final with Spain winning it all.

It’s not simply a Keji Giwa issue, or merely a Tinubu supporter phenomenon.

This mindset permeates much of the Nigerian and broader Black African elite class.

The suffering and exploitation of both people and systems are not aberrations within the global capitalist order. For many elites, they are features that sustain power and privilege.

That is why any political analysis or campaign that focuses solely on imperialism, though necessary, remains incomplete and one-dimensional.

In the absence of either a genuine popular uprising or a counter-elite movement, the liberation and revolution for ordinary people must begin in the mind.

To get there, we must move beyond myopic, politicized, agenda-driven, sentimental, and narrow analyses, and instead pursue a deeper, more lucid understanding of the underlying structures, incentives, and realities shaping our condition.

To be honest, I don't know if I fully grasp tensors.

I like the functorial view I learned from math people, however the computational view proves very useful for physics.

In reality maybe I don't fully grasp vectors either, but they feel more natural because I can readily visualize simple physical concepts that map to vectors.

Maybe these things were never meant to be fully understood, but merely leveraged to solve problems, and properties elucidated standalone, and in relation to other concepts. Perhaps this is what we mean by understanding.

AI engineering is deep in the so-called agentic phase. This is perhaps not news to people already building AI products. It does not mean model development is solved; rather, it indicates that instead of the model being the product, the full package increasingly consists of one or more models together with logic/code for reasoning, planning, execution, memory, context management, environment state representation, etc. https://t.co/DFzCtWTnwR.

While some observers choose to emphasize the progress of artificial intelligence, one can also interpret this progress as indicative that many everyday intellectual and economic activity is repetitive. This may place significant pressure on existing labor-capital frameworks and assumptions about how economic value is created and distributed.

Simulation and synthetic data, with and without agentic pipelines, are pushing the boundary here. In autonomous driving, for example, industry leaders simulate scenarios in sensor space, motion planning space, rare-event distributions, HD maps, pedestrian behavior, human factors, etc.

At the pinnacle of human intellectual endeavor, old ideas can be reused or connected in genuinely novel ways. In reality many of us speak like white people duh. English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian are all languages of white people.

It is irrelevant what accent you choose to speak it with. What is important is that you reason properly in the medium most convenient for you. Therefore unless logic, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, programming etc are re-written in African languages, there is hardly any viable choice but to get on board with foreign languages.

Rising above shackles does not mean hating or rejecting everything that is associated with colonizers or neo-colonizers. In fact it is prudent to accept that you probably have a thing or two to learn, which is why you were/are colonized/dominated in the first place.

For example, after the reforms initiated under Deng Xiaoping, China actively encouraged students and researchers to study in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other advanced economies.

Today, many founders, executives, and senior researchers at companies like Huawei, Tencent, Baidu, ByteDance etc. either studied abroad themselves or hired heavily from globally trained talent pools.

I suppose it takes an intentional people or maybe elite not blinded by pain, anger or pride to be able to separate taking control of your destiny, realizing what must be learned from the masters vs ideas that must be completely rejected.

Actually in my view the ideal is live and let live. However I understand that some people might not agree with this view. Moreover for those who agree, there is the matter
of how to implement it.

For example how do we go about righting the wrongs of recent history? Should we take some money from the rich and distribute it among the poor so that everybody can eat 3 good meals a day.

So I am saying there originally was nothing, but humans created something. Whatever it is that has been created must always be viewed critically, not as an absolute that was ordained by omniscience.

Science is different since ideas and/or their consequences can be objectively verified, at least for the most part.

Morality is made up by mankind, just like most other layers of human society. Do animals in the jungle have a concept of morality?

However morality serves the purpose of aspiring to a deeper, self-consistent for mutually assured existence, viable and more meaningful common ground. Morality is about ethics and it is the precursor to civics and law, but the relationship is often complicated.

There are statutes that have been written into law that many people would consider immoral. Exercising your right to vote is civics, but would not be considered moral. Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955 was illegal but moral. Consider a Lieutenant ordered to drop a bomb on a city of innocent civilians. If he obliges it is a war crime and if he does not it is disobedience and misconduct.

Thus morality is an ideal, an ideal that gets continuously refined by debate, dialogue and reason. An ideal that many parents strive to pass to their children. An ideal that many societies endeavor to imbibe in their youths. It is an important ideal.

Ideals are hardly ever attained. Thus civics and law are not merely applied morality, they also involve power, incentives, history, institutions etc.

Morality can be inspired by philosophical and religious writings or teachings. However it is a misconception that morality strictly comes from religion or from deities. You just have to imagine what life and morality was back in any of the stone ages - before any of the modern religions that Africans obsess about - to see this.

If this is too far back in history, you can also look at colonial era, when other nations pillaged the natural and human resources of others.

If you don't like history, you can also look at modern times, high income inequality, all the wars. If you look at your immediate environment, you might also see that morality is not the main driving force.

In the grand scheme of things, the main driving force is natural, not a made up one, competition for resources.

This manifests as envy, greed and schemes on small scales and war, neocolonialism and geopolitics at larger scales.

We can imagine there is an ideal, but all the details of that ideal will hardly ever be agreed upon. This fact has been the source of many conflicts throughout human history.

Now as far the truth being finally in Christ, if you consider that humans existed for several thousand years before Christ, and also take into account there are millions, maybe even billions of humans like Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists etc that don't fully subscribe to your notion of the ideal, you have to admit that any ideals you espouse are mostly for yourself. When viewed through the lens of everyone else, beyond for the purpose of mutually assured existence, any such ideals are arbitrary at best, and proselytizing, coercion and indoctrination at the other stretch.
