@ModestTeacher We’re not allowed to give comprehensive exams because “they aren’t fair”, so only open-note unit tests are allowed (all tests are open-note except DC courses). You can give a comprehensive project, though. 🤷🏼♀️
@lorelie52 @heymrsbond Yep. Last time he won, my students were telling all the students with any sort of different skin tone to “go back where they came from” in the hallways. I can’t do this again.
@heymrsbond Personal favorite are purple Ener-gel pens by Pentel. If the grip starts to hurt, I put one of those foam adaptive pencil grips on it for more cushioning.
@OBrienSci 1,000% this!!! My Art 2 students whined constantly about not having enough time in class, so I made a graph after some data collection. They spent half of their time on their phone for each studio day, and on average missed 20% of a unit due to absences.
@FixingEducation Had a student get two inches away from my face and tell me he could kill me if he wanted to my first year teaching. Had two tell me they hoped my sister died while she was in the ICU. Usually though, I just get called the b-word for asking them to put phones away.
@ModestTeacher We are banned from giving comprehensive final exams, unless it’s a college credit course that requires it. We also are given 0 minutes to grade final works the last days of school before grades are due, and must accept late work until school is out for the summer.
@eduleadership I won, in a raffle where I had to answer daily trivia questions to earn a ticket, a coupon for one of our administrators to come tell me a joke when I’m having a bad day.
@heymrsbond We have eight school days going just to iReady testing to prep students for the ISAT (Idaho test). That’s 8 days less of working on art projects in my classes (my curriculum) just so we can boast the highest test scores in the state.
@sage_stage In small settings, like peer to peer in-building, it can work if you have similar teaching styles and goals. A functioning PLC is proof of this. However, if you have totally different teaching styles or are asking about a “universal” sort of lesson plan…no.
@FixingEducation “I’m going to do that later, I have something due in an important class next period.” I get it daily as an art teacher. My students think I’m just a study hall.
