The South African middle class gets punished for being productive. Earn a little more and SARS takes a bigger slice, yet you're still expected to fund your own medical aid, security, schooling and transport. Taxation without corresponding services is not fairness.

I’m 60, and my son is 33. He still lives in my house, sleeping in the same room he grew up in and using the same closet I built for him when he was ten. He eats the food I prepare for him every day. He doesn’t work, doesn’t study, and doesn’t look for anything. He wakes up late, turns on the television or computer, and that’s how his day passes. If I don’t serve him breakfast, he skips it. If I don’t wash his clothes, he leaves them piled on a chair until he has nothing clean left to wear.
But it wasn’t always this obvious. It started years ago, little by little, and I allowed it all to happen.
When he was a child, I didn’t let him do anything on his own. I tied his shoes until he was twelve because he said it took too long. I did his homework for him “so he wouldn’t get stressed.” If there was a problem with a teacher at school, I went to speak on his behalf. If he argued with a friend, I stepped in. I always told myself, “He’ll have time to suffer when he’s an adult.” I never let him experience discomfort.
The working environment I’m currently in has become extremely toxic 💔😭😭😭. The actions I’m seeing clearly show that I’m no longer wanted or allowed to stay.
I’m an IT graduate and a postgraduate student majoring in Networking. I hold Microsoft Fundamentals and full CCNA certification (CCNA 1, 2, 3, 4 & CCNA Security), and I have hands-on experience in Business Analysis, Systems Support, Fibre Network Planning, Technical Support, and Network Engineering.
I’m urgently looking for entry-level jobs/internships or junior posts in IT (Network Engineer, System Support, Fibre Network Planner, Technical Support, Business Analyst, and related fields).
My CV is available upon request.

Please help me find an opportunity, even a repost could connect me with the right employer 🥹🙏

@odedanilo This has always been my experience with them until recently when I went to fill up and wanted to get bread as well. The attendant shouted as I walked into the shop "I drink dragon". Mind you I don't know him at all and I tip attendants.
Sixteen years ago, I was having lunch in Bedfordview with two friends.
In the middle of that meal, I asked a simple question:
“Why do we have to drive this far just to enjoy a proper meal?”
At the time, I owned a small two-bedroom house in Daveyton.
And in that moment, something shifted.
Instead of complaining about the distance…
I decided to change the location of opportunity.
I went back home.
Demolished the two-bedroom house.
And built what would become Brima Café — an elegant restaurant in the heart of Daveyton.
Not because it was easy.
But because our community deserved quality.
Our people deserved experience.
And our township deserved excellence.
Brima Café was never just a restaurant.
It was a statement.
A statement that you don’t have to leave your community to enjoy beauty.
You can build it where you are.
From a question over lunch…
to a landmark in Daveyton.

I’m moving tomorrow and the older lady who lives next to me stopped me in the hallway tonight. She said, “I’m really going to miss you.” I smiled and told her I’d miss her too, and then she said something that completely broke me.
She told me every time I went out at night with my friends, she would stay up. She wouldn’t turn off her TV, wouldn’t go to bed, wouldn’t fully relax until she heard my door close and knew I made it home safe.
This whole time I thought I was just living next to a quiet neighbor. Turns out I had a guardian angel through the wall.
I’m leaving tomorrow and now I can’t stop thinking about all those nights I stumbled in late, tired and laughing, not knowing someone next door was listening for that small click of my door just to feel at peace.
Some people love you softly. So softly you don’t even realize you’re being cared for. 🖤😭
We need to talk about working moms. Urgently. Women are drowning.
I know the capitalistic system intentionally empowered women so it can get more labourers, saturate the labour market, lower wages, have more taxpayers, break up families, have broken couples & single people buy/rent more properties, isolate the kids away from the parents, etc...
...but, my post is about: working moms are struggling, & we need solutions. More (affordable) boarding schools? Groom working fathers to be deputy moms? Many working women are joining the childless movement? Cheaper nannies? Ship kids to grandparents? Township kids are raised by the streets? Village kids are raised by neighbours? No kids? Contraceptives? Housewives? Househusbands?
I'm writing about a very deep topic with many layers; and I'm going to try & raise it as much as I can on different public & private platforms. What's the solution for urban working parents, & especially mothers, who are fatigued by their careers plus being parents... 💔
A Gen Z joined the team.
Week one.
During onboarding, the manager said,
“We sometimes stay late during peak periods.”
Gen Z nodded.
Then asked,
“Is that paid… or just expected?”
The room went quiet.
- No attitude.
- No rebellion.
- Just a question.
Later that day, HR mentioned “growth opportunities.”
Gen Z replied,
“Does growth include raises, or just more responsibility?”
Again, silence.
- No laziness.
- No entitlement.
- Just clarity.
That’s when the team realized something.
When people say
“Gen Z is lazy,”
what they really mean is:
Gen Z watched old generation
- skip meals,
- miss birthdays,
- work weekends,
- and burn out
only to be told
“budgets are tight”
and “be grateful you have a job.”
So Gen Z chose differently.
- They don’t romanticize overwork.
- They don’t confuse suffering with ambition.
- They don’t trade health for praise.
They still work hard.
They just refuse to work for nothing.
It’s not laziness.
It’s pattern recognition.
And honestly,
after everything old generation went through…
Can you really blame them?
@IvynSambo It’s illegal for them to pass on ANY of their bank fees to their customers.
Both the Consumer Protection Act and the Merchant’s Agreement they signed with their bank prohibit them from doing so.
Knowledge is power 💪🏽⚡️
I have similar wishes but I prefer to cater to immediate family and friends who would have traveled from far to support. So I asked for no slaughtering and no feasting (several colors). Just a simple pap & sheba or sandwiches. I have minor kids who will need every cent saved.
Just wanted to share something I saw today. Adult friendships require grace. People are busy. People are healing. People are growing. People are taking time for self-care just like you. Don’t mistake less communication for less love. Check in, not out.🤍
