@JournoStephen I am wondering where the UKs Bardella eventually emerges from, then.. certainly won't come from the Tory right or Reform, and the old working class far right (BNP) fell apart in the 2000s at the slightest sign of media scrutiny. Who do we need to look out for?

@MichaelRosenYes I think I've mostly heard 'donkey with a red/blue rosette' used for this purpose.. other variations around but this one gives off a nice sense of passivity and lack of personality.

@peterwalker99 Secondly, these people agree to have their name published with no expectation to campaign so they can get on with their lives as normal for 6 weeks, they don't expect to suddenly have an army of conspiracy theorists trying to doxx them.

@paulwebster @theobertram And that would be fine.. because there's nothing wrong with having paper candidates. As much as I disagree with them, people are entitled to vote for them.

@SeanSteven25178 @theobertram Hate to be shilling for Reform here, but paper candidates agree to have their names published on the agreement that there is no expectation to campaign: Greens and LDs also put up paper candidates in areas where they are weak.. should they all be paraded for the cameras too?

@theobertram Also, if there was any impropriety, it will probably be something dull like nomination signatures or use of funds.. this "They're not real!" nonsense just seems like it'll shield them from actual scrutiny.

@Jeffrey62093861 @sundersays Why is that an issue? Paper candidates are allowed, the deposit was paid and the mail drop is an entitlement for those standing. They have no local activist base so support is likely to fizzle out.. just like the BNP in around 2005.

@Beyond_Topline Feel like Tugendhat is the leader they get in a couple of years after they've been burned by lurching to the right. Ex-military too which might woo some of the Reform types.

@Beyond_Topline I'm unconvinced.. it's easy enough to find folk who'll put their name down as a paper candidate.. the hard work is going round getting local signatures.. making sure they're registered etc. If there's any wrongdoing it's more likely to be the latter.

@BylineTimes Green party put up paper candidates all the time.. usually someone in the local party who doesn't mind having their name published.. the more difficult part is going around the constituency getting signatures, checking they're registered etc.

@BylineTimes Seems like a bit of a nothingburger.. why would they risk it when there would presumably be enough people to act as paper candidates. If there's anything dodgy its likely to be in the nomination signstures and not the actual candidates.
