The fact there’s a “winter crisis” every year should be a source of shame for politicians and NHS leaders. It reflects a recurrent failure to plan, invest, and address root causes of hospital and ED crowding, in the face of societal, demographic and health trends. @RCollEM 1/8
🚨We have a new title: BMA Residents 🚨
A long time coming, and after much hard work, junior doctors will now be called Resident Doctors.
This new title better reflects their huge range of skills and responsibilities.

Today we launch our General Election Manifesto: #ResuscitateEmergencyCare
Our members shared their experiences of unsafe & unacceptable conditions in EDs. Now we'll present solutions directly to those who'll form the next @GOVUK to effective change for clinicians & patients.
📺This video is to raise public awareness of the issues our members and patients face in A&Es every day.
It explains what’s wrong with the Emergency Care system and the solutions outlined in our General Election Manifesto.
Please share and help to #ResuscitateEmergencyCare
Joint @BMA_JuniorDocs and @BMA_Consultants picket in Bournemouth. We all want this dispute to be swiftly resolved - please can the government return to negotiations.
#DoctorsStrike
We can now announce that for the first time, junior doctors and consultants will be taking joint strike action in England.
Here are the dates for September and October #DoctorsStrike
Always worth a re read when some suggests a league table for how many patients are seen/hour by docs (AcPs, PAs, ENPs and others) https://t.co/m7YjsEUCf2
If we as a nation are serious about police officers spending one million fewer hours per year on mental health emergency work, we must be serious about planning and investing in one million more hours per year of health care staff time for this work

So much smearing & belittling of consultants in the press, but this, from today’s @thetimes letters page, could not have put it more beautifully.
Pls RT if you agree.

Picket line at Poole Hospital today #ConsultantStrike
Thank you to our colleagues who are working today to provide a safe emergency service.
#FixConsultantPay in order to recruit and retain experienced doctors for the NHS.
@BMA_Consultants
At this time I would be preparing for my shift in ED.
Today, instead, I’m joining the picket line for the #ConsultantStrike.
The government needs to address 15 years of pay erosion and commit to a properly independent pay review process.
#FixConsultantPay
A message from our co-chairs @_VivekTrivedi and @RobLaurensonD4P for all junior doctors on strike for the next five days. Thursday morning we ask you to show your support at picket lines. For the remaining time, don’t go into work - rest, see friends and family, and recharge.
We’re still using outdated, confusing and infantilising terminology to describe doctors who aren’t consultants: junior, SHO, clinical fellow, middle grade etc.
Fixing this and addressing wider concerns about training programmes should be the priority, IMHO.
Fin.
A consultant is an expert in their field. They are employed to give advice to others on that particular subject.
That describes the role of both consultant doctors and consultant practitioners in healthcare.

Yes, they have different training pathways and different scope of practice. We should welcome structured pathways to achieve consultant practitioner status.
Denigrating individuals who have worked just as hard and achieved a great deal is nonsense.
